Sight bases from parts kit reuseable?

Is the front & rear sight base / trunion / lugs of the parts kit salvegable ?
either drilling out the spot welds or destroying the reciever ends ?

Well it takes a lot of hack sawing and careful grinding but I have done mine. Just look at the new GI receiver to see where the welds are and only grind there.
