Well, I finally did it. I bought an AimShot Gemini Laser - model 6600B. I mounted it on the Uzi short mount from Botach. The mount attaches to the bayonet lug. It's a rock solid setup. I was only able to shoot 50 rounds today using the laser and it was a blast! If you're looking for a laser for your Uzi, you may want to consider this setup. Clink on the links below for details:

wire. I'd find a way to mount it inside the front grip and use a button switch of some type.
That wire is just begging to be snaged on everything that the gun comes near.
Nice setup otherwise.

Lasers and their mounts seem to be getting more and more reasonably priced now days and this is no exception. For less than $100.00 for the laser and $35.00 for the mount you have a nice little aiming system. Now we need a good long term test to see how it holds up.

So far I've been happy with the laser. I had to do one modifcation: I had to take a dremel cutting tool to the side grooves and make the grooves deeper. This allowed for a more positive lock-up with the laser mount. Before I did this, the laser would move up and down slightly during full auto fire. During the Knob Creek subgun competition, the laser fell off the mount because of vibration. You definately need to "locktite" it to ensure it remains in place after multiple rounds have been fired. Still undergoing testing.

Dan-
Thanks for the feedback. As we see from the web pages of both the laser module and the mount, the sellers are expecting the units to be used on UZI's in particular and there is no disclaimer suggesting against use with full auto fire. There is no doubt some of the members here would use this laser system just as you have and come up with the same problems. Did you contact the sellers with your concern prior to making the change with the Dremel ? Just wondering what their suggestion would be. Thanks again for the update and let us know of any further concerns or info, Best Regards, JIMBO

I must have missed something. From what I've read, the Botach mount and the laser were not made to be used with each other. So, to me, it's understandable that a slight modification needs to be made. It took me approximately 15 minutes with a dremel cutting wheel. I then covered the exposed aluminum with Birchwood Casey - Aluminum Black. It's extremely difficult to see my modification even if you know what I did. I shot 150 rounds of 9mm through it today (after modification and placing loctite on screws), and it has not moved. Over the next couple of weeks, I'll shoot at least another 500 rounds of 9mm. I'll post a followup when I've put more rounds through it. Although, I'm fairly certain it should work perfectly.

I assumed that since you bought them to use together then that was their application. I thought since you were having problems there must have been some sort of manufacture defect rather than the fact they were not meant to be used together. I am glad you were able to afix a solution to the problem with your shop tools. Some on this forum, especially newbies may have thought that since you bought the laser module and the mount from Botach to use together, they were designed to be used in conjunction with one another. Thank you for explaining in your next post that was not the case. One could have surmised that the fault was with one of the manufacturers. Instead, you were able to modify one part that was not specifically intended to be used with the other and make a unit that works well.
As he stated, it would be nice to see some close up pics of your modification should anyone else choose to use this combo and thanks in advance for your future reports on the units performance.

JIMBO, here's a pic of the mount as it is shown on the Botach website. All I did was cut the two grooves a little deeper so the laser mount could wedge itself deeper into the grooves. You can see one of the grooves in the pic below. The groove I'm talking about moves from the lower left and upwards to the right. Hope this makes sense.

Do you shoot FA ? We have members in your state looking for places to shoot FA, one member who recently went to the NRA range in Fairfax, VA and was basically snubbed and pidgeon holed into coming at odd hours, Exa: after the cops were done but before the range got busy with people. Thanks for any info you may have. :cool

yes i have vector full auto....we have an indoor range in richmond where we are welcome to shoot full auto...also a gun club about 40 miles outside of richmond where we shoot .....some of the gun clubs in this area get weird if you even shoot your pistol fast...***whoa there rambo , we don't play that crap around here***....old farts mostly....get scared if you shoot more than once every 2 seconds.....kinda makes it hard to have an IDPA match....but we survive, you just gotta know where to shoot or know someone with some private land....which i do....the NRA range is really picky....i've never been there but i've heard the horror stories.....

did you have to also purchase the rail mount for the laser from the same website or does it come with something??....in other words, was the laser from opticsplanet and the uzi mount from botach all you had to purchase??

The laser mount must be purchased with the laser from OpticsPlanet. The laser set up on my Uzi consists of the following:
OpticsPlanet:
AimSHOT Gemini Laser (LS 6600B Laser Sight $99.99 + $20.00 for Black = $119.99 Total)
Aimshot Pistol rail mount system (P/N 61165, $17.95)
Botach:
Uzi Short Mount ($35.00)
Total setup: $172.94 + shipping (and possible tax depending where you live)
Since there seems to be some interest, I'll go into greater detail.
I've found this setup needs a little "tinkering." The bayonet lug is not 100% horizontal (another Vector Uzi owner verified the same thing). So I used two small aluminum shims when mounting the Botach mount to the bayonet lug. I also used a Dremel tool to smooth the allen screw on the Botach mount. If you don't, it'll cut a circle into your bayonet lug. You 'WILL' have to cut the mounting grooves on the Botach mount a little deeper so as to ensure a positive lock with the laser mount. If you fail to cut the grooves deeper, the laser mount will move up and down slightly on the Botach mount. The laser housing is made of aluminum, so be careful as not to "strip" the threads. I would like to have seen the housing made of steel, but it works. I recommend using low strength loctite on 'ALL' screws. When sighting in the laser, I placed the Uzi in a padded vice. I aimed the Tasco Red Dot on an area on the wall and used this reference point to adjust the laser (luckily, I have a deep garage to get the distance right). You could probably accomplish the same thing with iron sights.
Like I said, there will be a small amount of tinkering. But, to me, this is half the fun of owning firearms. I hope to run a few hundred rounds of 9mm this weekend to give it more of a test.

Looks like the short mount will not fit with the K grip. You would have to go with the long mount? correct?

dan...after seeing your posts on the laser and the red dot scope mount i decided that i had to have my uzi setup the same way...although the scope mount rocks and the red dot is a vast improvement over the peep sight....the aimshot laser is junk...i got the same bayonet mount from botach, and the same model laser ...i'm sending the laser back tomorrow....the first time i tried to adjust it i stripped one of the adjustment screws...and if the screws are not tightened just right the laser refuses to even turn on at all.....maybe i got a defective one but i think i am going to ask for a refund and find a better laser.....are you still using yours and if so are you still liking it????

Mickporno, sounds like you've got a defective unit. My one issue with it, as stated in a previous post, is that the unit is made of aluminum. For that fact, I'm careful when tightening it. So far my laser is working well and I've not had the issue of the laser not turning on. I haven't had the chance to shoot a lot of 9mm through it, so I'm still not 100% sure that it'll maintain zero after hundreds of rounds. But I have used it with my 22 conversion kit quite a bit (about 2 bricks) and it's great. It's definately not a high priced laser, but so far I've been happy with it. If you find a higher quality laser, please post here for others. It would be good to post a variety of lasers that can be used with the uzi.

you still using that laser?...you still like it?....i picked up a streamlight M6 laser and illuminator that works mucho better...it was more expensive but for the added feature of the white light i think it was worth it...i also ordered the long mount from botach, should give me some more room on the front grip since the M6 is larger...as soon as it comes in i'll prolly be looking to sell the short mount....
so far i'm liking it alot.....

mickporno, I've only shot about 100 rounds of 9mm and about 500 rounds of 22lr in the past couple of weeks. It's still working well and I like it. Do you have any pics of the laser mounted on your Uzi?
