Anyone have any experience with a converted FNC? I've been looking at buying one lately and one happened to turn up at a local C3.

They are much cheaper than a M16 but same rifle caliber and even uses the same mags. I might even be able to use the optics I already have on a FNC.

Any hints or suggestions?

Not as versatile as a M16 because of interchangeable uppers...

The FNC is much more reliable. AK operating system with an M16 lower. Plus you can have a four position selector. The FNC will digest anything and keeps going and going.

If you are only going to have one 5.56 NFA, FNC.

I had one, but sold it because I had no where to shoot it. Shot it a few times and it was neat. If the price is managable get it.

I have an FNC, and an AR15 RDIAS in transfer. I'll be selling the FNC once the RDIAS transfer is done. In comparing the two:

FNC pros, AR cons: More reliable than an M16. The FNC should be nicer to shoot suppressed than an M16, due to the AK action vs. direct gas impingement (no personal experience here). Parts are much harder to come by than an AR.

AR Pros, FNC cons: AR can shoot multiple calibers with a swap of the upper, the FNC will only shoot 5.56mm. ARs have more aftermarket/custom parts than you can shake a stick at. With the FNC, you can swap out the grip, and put one brand of railed foreend on it. That's it as far as aftermarket.

If you want a well built .223 ,FNC all the way ,for the money .first shot with one and you feel the easy recoil stay right on target for next shot.full auto same thing,3 rd burst,I only used that option 1 or 2 times.I have a ruger ac556 and tried friends hk and ar16.I like the fnc ,for differant reasons,#1 ,hk and ar are over my budget(got ac556 and fnc) less than 1 hk or ar.2nd mags are cheap and drum makes a great addition.#3, doesnt get hot as fast as ruger .#4 doesnt need cleaning like ar.everready bunnie.#5 after market stuff is limited ,I have both folding and full stock and 2 kinds of grips. If money is not a problem go hk,If like me you work then fnc is hands down better than a ruger ac556.just my 2c.If you have the chance try one out you will like the feel.

IMHO the m16 is superior to the FNC especially in US because of all parts and uppers and other junk (maybe a belt feed upper?) also its jest superior in firearm VS firearm because in civilian ownership the m16 reliability problem is not a problem( you not going to crawl true the jungle) and ever other aspics the m16 is superior but for the price of one colt m16 you can get a UZI + sear FNC so if you have the money get m16 but if you don’t the FNC almost as good (like the mp5 vs UZI story) and finally the ac556 is not worth purchasing as long as the price of the FNC is so dame close (unless you have thing for American made guns) the FNC reliability and superior accuracy and the fact that you can fire 100rnd drums (jest don’t over do it) or 3 to 4 mags with not that much of a problem vs ac556 were the hit well severely damage the gun or at very least make inoperable.
But that’s my :2cents
Ps I have FNC and m16 but no ac556 (but I like to have one do)

They're both very good rifles. Most of the pros and cons boil down to things the average enthusiast would not need or take advantage of. How often do you swap out uppers on an AR/M16? How often do you get pinned down on a Pacific island for 30 days?

If I could own just one, it would be a nice M16. But for the same money I could afford 2 FNCs and sears. Which is what I did. I believe the FNC will ultimately prove to be the better investment.

Oh, yeah, belt fed upper: who gives a rat's ass? :cool

I totally agree about these unnecessary options but deferent uppers is big thing you can go from 9mmSD to m4 14inch to 20inch m16 all of them give you deferent feeling and over all experience but at 14k a gun it is more efficient for 99% of ppl to simply purchase an FNC + sear and a great 9mm SMG like an UZI or Swedish K all of the NFA gun a great investment but only if you planning on selling them and not shooting so if you like to shot and like the idea of owning MG then get your self a FNCsear and then a good SMG but if you have money and you only wont one cool gun then get yourself an M16.

PS I gives a rat's ass about belt fed

I'm surprised no one has touched on this point. Shooting it is real fun but cleaning any of the AR family is a real pain in the ass. I have shot and cleaned my fair share of both. The FN design in my opinion is a better weapon.

Right on, Sully. Especially if you plan to put alot of rounds down range; the FNC is cake to clean and the AR is a chore...

:fal
closest image to a FNC in the smiley list...I like FALs too!

Yeah, the AR poops where it eats and that has always bugged me. Guess that's the reason for the gas piston uppers on the market. They all cost $$$ or I'd have one.

Just got one of the DSARMS / POF AR's. I had them set it up for a select fire gun so I could swap the upper onto my RR. I will tell you how it runs once I get ahold of it.

I have an S&H Arms converted FNC. I have had it for about a year now. I shot it last time I was home. It shoots very nice and is accurate. I think it makes a great collector NFA item and occasional shooter. The lack of available spare parts and accessories keeps it from being a serious ITSHTF weapon. I am partial to the M16 series. The price of a RR M16 keeps a lot of people away though. I would say buy it if you can and keep a good semi AR-15 around for serious work.
