View Full Version : ChiCom Drum w/7.62x39 upper???
I know there are some awesomely talented folks here, and I'm wondering who might be doing something like this:
I've decided to buy a 7.62x39 upper for my 16. I've got several ChiCom drums, both 120 found 5.56 AR type and 75 round 7.62x39 AK types.
I know that there are a few 75 round drums around that would work with my AR, but.....
1. Could I use my 120 round 5.56 AR drum, loaded with Wolf 7.62x39 and use it? I know you can use regular 30 round mags with 8-9 rounds, could this work with a drum?
2. Second alternative: Have someone cut the top off a 75 round AK drum and have a 10 round AR mag spot welded on top. I'm not sure about adding followers? I know there was a nice thread about spot welding your own Frankenmags, but how about a drum?
Which is best, or even workable? Anyone build a working model? I can get a few virgin ChiCom drums.
Thanks

USA 7.62 x 39 10 round mag welded to a Chicom 75 round drum. You have to add a partition to the USA mag so the ammo single feeds out of the drum into the mag. I didn't make it.
I'd be interested in some of the Chicom drums if you have a source.
Drum ran great until the spring broke. When they pre formed the spring it looks like they just bent it every inch or so over the edge of a table. Well, thats where mine broke on one of the "kinks". I replaced the spring and its running again.

Thanks
WOW a 575 round drum!!!! That rocks!!!!
hahaha... If you find someone who can make a good one I would be interested....
You know you have got the fever bad, when you buy mags for guns you don't own yet!!!!
What's even worse, not only is the upper not here yet, but I'm going to put it on my Colt 16, which is still pending. Worse case if NFA branch gets any slower, I'll have to put it on my Oly RR instead.
It's going to be 'da bomb!

They have an 11" 7.62 upper. I have also seen the 7.5" .223 uppers... I wonder if the 7.62 doesn't function very well any shorter....
