This is probaly a stupid question, but I never hear mention of a hammer? in a uzi, is there one,if there isn't, exactly how does a semi uzi work. I guess you can't make a semi using a open bolt with just a plate welded in to stop the selector from being put in full auto mode, I know these are some, maybe silly questions, but I'm new as can be with the uzi.

The UZI has a striker assembly rather than a hammer. Pictures of it in the library here. (http://files.uzitalk.com/reference/pages/striker.htm) The striker is what is held back by the sear and released when you pull the trigger. Rather than having a hammer that hits the firing pin, the firing pin is fixed to the striker and travels forward when the striker is released.

Not to mention that building a new open bolt semi is unlawful according to ATF.
