This seems REAL skecthy, I dont own a AR 15 ( I dont like them much), however, looking around the net about this it seems that some people think that this is a ATF setup. The whole thing HAS to be illegal. what do you guys think?

Do not buy a "pre '81" DIAS.
ATF considers them OK to own by themselves, but if you also own an AR-15, you are in posession of an unregistered MG. They are utterly useless and can only lead to trouble.

If you are not an US resident , have it sent to your home in canada. .. or Israel. :D these arn't regulated by the State Dept for export.
But
Im not dumb enough to buy one of these.
ADDED...
If it was an ATF sting they will say NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING and give you 2 millions reasons. However, a business man wont care if its sent to Antartica as long as fund heed thier way.

I am not into censorship... But if I ran SGN I would not accept an ad like like... Just to protect my readers... If I was making a post sample you should be able to find one a lot cheaper than that....

Well, they only expect COD, which means, cash on D. I wouldnt think that they would do this internationally. I would think that COD would limit it to US without having to say "no export".
I dont know, SOO many gun owners still have no idea about the laws. Whenever someone approches me about their pals ar15, they ALWAYS say something like "he has it converted to full auto/" then I always ask question of how he did it and so on. Some even think the the AWB expiration meant that full auto is now allowed.

I think the only lawful use for those pre-81 sears is if you owned a registered receiver AR15 that for some reason used an unserialed DIAS and you needed a replacement.
Stay away from em otherwise.

I know of a guy a few years ago selling those things, or trying to at gun shows and Pawn Shops. He sold a bunch of em. Dumb Dumb Dumb....I highly doubt it is a "sting" as that ad has run now for 10 plus years......Funny side note...Only person I have seen buy one at a gun show was a UNIFORMED COP..lol.....We even had some dumbass down here converting cops guns for 200 bucks plus parts...he sent off dozens before ATF nailed his ass (San Angelo). Unreal how STUPID some people are...It is not hard to get a SOT and deal with this stuff the legal way...It really is not.

The ad has been run for around 9 years and its common knowledge that it was. However... if you do not own an AR-15 you can own these and they make a nice set of earrings. Small town Police Departments and some SOT2/7's use them to make Post Sample Machineguns... but the general public its a no no.

I agree there is a use for them like you said... But for legal uses I think you could pick them up considerably cheaper...
As far as the ad running for years... I do believe I have seen it on and off for quite a while... I never really gave it a lot of attention...
Like they say if you know its wrong and you still do it...... Look at those unregistered suppressors they were selling at the auction sites!!!! Somebody came knocking at your door if you just emailed the company selling them!!! (They were a foriegn company)

12+ years I've been getting SGN and that ad has been there,
The company name used to be T.P.F.
to which we called it "To Prison Fast" :)

There is a second ad that sells the same item for $75 or so. The best explaination (though probably not true) is that the FBI sells them for $275 and the ATF sells for $75. It would be fun to have a non-gun friend buy one to see who shows up just to end the speculation once and for all. I just wouldn't want to put a friend in an acuard position. Oh, and I don't have any friends who are not into guns.

Yep, most likely it is just a scam that takes your money and you never hear from them again, and since one is not likely to report the fraud to authorities, they stay open for business.

I have seen registered receiver M16s for sale with A DIAS. In a case like this, couldn't you use the new sear as a replacement? To my knowledge, the receiver and not the sear is registered.

That is correct but in that situation you should be able to get them a lot cheaper than $275.

and it is every other business that shuns away from the COD, this business however ONLY accects COD. So the payment method is readically differnt as well.

I guess by making it COD it takes some of their liability from the thing. In other words you are paying UPS not him for the device..Dunno..that is weird

You can drop one of those into a coverted (machined) lower that has m-16 parts in it, if you read the ad carefully i think there is something about "full auto safely" in it. Besides, you can pick one up at sturmgewer for 50 bucks. It wont fit an ar-15 and even if you make it fit, it will do nothing but insure that the hammer cannot drop untill the bolt is closed. (aka safely)
Good dreams, TK ffl/sot

I recall seeing it in SGN in the late 80's so for an add to run that long, the advertizer either has and is selling a legit product to a selective audience and has a ton of them onhand or has unlimited funding to run a bogus ad.
Either way, I'm not interested. I'm neither an SOT2/07 nor would I use one of them to have a full auto M16. I'd sooner buy a RR gun with all the parts in it.

There was a table of M16's at last year's December Crossroads (Phoenix, AZ) gunshow. The seller put JB weld in the sear hole and was selling them as AR15's...
PROPERTY OF US GOVERNMENT right on the receiver-- I guess he forgot to fill those in also. ;)
Umm.... Yeeeeeeah. Can we say STING?
