I hate to admit that I don't know everything but I will respond to some questions of what I know about the 41AE. Since "Rover Dave" has done extensive research on Uzi stuff, he might know more about this.
I have not seen very many AE guns. I have seen quite a few parts, especially barrels. Hence, why the barrels are inexpensive, there are a lot of them and no one wants them.
The bolt for the 41AE is the same as the 9mm. It is right that all you need to convert to 41AE is a barrel and a mag and some ammo!! The ammo is hard to find and/or expensive.
Vector does not have 41AE mags. They look like .45 mags but they are marked on one side at the bottom with .41AE and the feed lips are closer together. They hold 20rds.
Troy at Barrelxchange was rounding them up to try and use for 40s&w or .45 since the 16rd .45 mags dried up but I think the .41AE are dried up too. He had to manipulate the lips a little I think for 40s&w and .45.
Vector only has .45 10rd mags left. They might work for .41AE if you messed with the feed lips little.

The 41 AE are just a novalty collectors item.
They are practiicle useless / worthless if you dont have the AMMO, mag, manual, black plastic box and white cardboard box.

The only real practicle use i 've found was for the original IMI 22 LR insert barrel kit.
These kits required an full outer barrel to sleve / support the small insert. thus saving my 9mm barrel.

41 Action Express
The bullet heads are a .41 caliber and the case butt is a 9mm luger .

Peabody PM sent please advise. thanks

Seems hardly worth the effort.

41 is ballistically identical to the 40 S&W, but the 41 is a whole lot more $$ when you find ammo.. The 40 is inexpensive, offers more bullet weights, and can run up to 40 round in a Grease Gun mag, so you need the M3 lower...

I had nver heard of it before I saw the ad for the barrel. It wasn't listed in my Lyman book, and I even considered it was some esoteric model number or something. I didn't bother to look any further.

The 41AE is actually a pretty good round. It came out at the wrong time and was overwhelmed by the 40S&W because S&W and others marketed the pistols as well as the ammo.

41AE is actually a little better ballistically than the 40S&W because the case is bigger and longer. Both RCBS and Lee make reloading dies now. The case is straight walled so carbide dies work. The head is rebated.

The 41AE and 45ACP mags are identical except for the rounds holes on the side. I have shot them interchangeably. If the lips are different, it is only minute.

The real problem is the ammo, as others said. If you shoot 41AE and loose a case, you feel like a member of the family died. If IMI or someone else made a big run of ammo, every round would sell immediately. That would make all those cheap barrels useful.

Action Arms actually sold some original Model 41 carbines (Model B in 41AE). I have one NIB with all the stuff Suka mentions. The reference section here mentions them. They are only novelty because of the ammo situation.

I don't think any FA 41AE's were ever made.

A quick search on google turned up a source of cases, but they were 100 @ $99, a dollar a case. That's what guys I know pay for factory loaded .45-70 rounds. Very pricey.

Didn't .40 come out about 1990? I figure my .40 reloads are costing me about 8 to 9 cents each. Of course the cases are free. I'm a member of a local range, and have picked up lots over the past two years.

Im not sure if the IDF used it. maybe for speacial missions , but diffenatly no commercial 41AE smgs were converted. Since it used the same 9mm bolt anything is possible.
IMI did make a factory 10 1/4" 41AE barrel.

The Jericho 941 (baby desert eagle) as issued to the IDF did have 41AE.. as Samson of Israel made most of the ammo on the market. Spear and others also made small batches of the 41AE.

Action Arms also made some 41AE conversion kits for the Browning Hi Power and a couple of other pistols. They turn a "Low Power" into a Hi Power!

West Coast Bullets used to offer a .210 grain flat point .41 plated bullet but are they out of business? I've got about 1500. Fired about 1200 . Got about 700/800 loaded rounds. 210 gr at 900 to 1000 fps 16" barrel. No problems. But brass travels 30 feet. Can't be replaced when you loose it. I bought 2000 brass when it was 12 cents 10 years ago. I got 3 20 rd mags can't get any more. Picked up 8 boxes 170 hp and 5 boxes 200 fp original ammo at no kidding a Garage Sale! Are you ready? He took $100 for all of it! It's been on my shelf for a year and I haven't fired any yet. TMG

watch it, buddy:) consider when the HP came out, the idea that you could get 13 rounds of 9mm onboard a handgun was a very advanced idea, there is a reason that the model p-35 never got too popular, everyone grabbed at the hi power name. besides that, it is the best handgun ever desinged, hands down.

41AE ammo story....a few years ago a older friend of mine died, and his widdow gave me a BIG box of 41ae ammo....Thousands and thousands of rounds..some loaded in mags..Well that night we went out, got drunk and it rained on the ammo all night. Next day I drove out to the middle of my property and dumped it out on the ground...1 year later the field catches fire on 4th of July......pop pop pop pop pop pop .....that shit went off all night....Vol FD would not get close to that field...cant blame em. Guess the rain did not ruin that ammo after all.:(

Ps...ya ever want to have some fun with your buddies during a camping trip.......dump a box of primers into the camp fire..lol
