I really like the 9X18 round. The Russians have subguns already chambered for this round, but of course, they are not importable in any form. Is there or would there be any way I could get a conversion from the 9X19 to 9X18?

I think all it would take is a barrel and a bolt, I am going to go try to see if I can get some rounds into a 25 rounder.
The round is actually 9.2mm, but for some reason it never was called 9.2, only 9X18

What do you guys think?

I would really LOVE to have a 9X18 carbine. there would be no advantage other than equally cheap 9X18 ammo.

You guys always get me into doing some looking... Of course you will need a custom barrel.... Barrel exchange????

But I am not sure about the bolt, it looks like it would work.... It looks like it is the same case head size but I cannot confirm this. I found several reloading reports about using cut down 9mm cases as replacements for the 9x18... But I can't find factory case dimensions...

I sure would hate to see a 9x18 get mixed in with 9s but I don't think it would completely chamber... In an auto it probably would go out of battery...

9x18 mak is a 9x19 (parabellum, luger, ect) with 1 mm sawed off. Then you put a .365 bullet in it and fire it to fire form it. Or neck it up first but I never tryed that one. Because it is a 9x19 case the normal bolt will definitly fire it.Mabey you take a 9x19 barrel. Remove 1 mm from rear of chamber.Remove 1 mm from the collar to set the headspace back.Ream the chamber out to 9x18 mak . Re bore the barrel to.365 from .355. Now you cab fire one round for sure but the real question is will the mags feed properly? I don't know. 9x19 that feeds good is 1.125-1.150 (fmj) Mak 9x18 max col is .984. Also you might need a lighter recoil spring. TMG

I am intrested, this would be the closest thing I could get to a Russian sub gun.

barrel exchange????

would the 9x18 round be strong enough to operate the bolt at the correct speed without making it lighter?

Somebody ever gets a 9mm Lugar in the mag and shoots it with that barrel is in for an awful surprise. I wouldn't attempt the conversion for that reason.

maybe block a mag and desing some sort of adapter that would only allow the 9X18.

There has got to be a way to avoid a mistake, while keeping it simple enough to be feasiable.

I could see this done super easy in a Mac-11 9mm setup.

I believe the .41AE barrels had an extra groove around them for easy identification. I guess theoretically some obvious external marking could be put on the barrel to avoid this.

Was doing some looking and it is close but not quite the same... you mentioned correctly about the barel mods... The 9x19 is a tapered case but the 9x18 is a cylindrical case.. I just could not find any actual case dimentions on the net....

I sure would not try it but I don't think it would be that harmfull. The Luger is longer and more powerful. You might get an out of battery fire by 1mm for the longer case... But since the bullet is much smaller it would skip thru the barrel....

It would be like firing 30-30s out of a 32 Winchester. A friend told me he did it and I looked it up... The bullet is small enough that it doesn't seat it the grooves... I asked him about the accuracy... He said really bad....

Now putting a 9x18 in a regular 9mm barrel... if it would fire... would be pretty nasty...
