I WAS WONDERING IF ANYBODY HAD INFORMATION ON HOW MANY OF THIS GUNS WERE MADE BY SMITH AND WESSON? AND THERE SERIAL NUMBER RANGES, PREFIX'S, AND DATES OF MANUFACTURE?

JUST RECEIVED MY SW76 ABOUT A MONTH AGO, FIRED ABOUT A 1,000 ROUNDS THROW IT. RUN LIKE A CHAMP, I LOVE IT.

I ALSO FOUND A PICTURE OF A 76 WITH A CAR STOCK ON IT. LOOKS COOL, I THINKING OF MAKING END CAP ADAPTER FOR MYSELF.

About 6000 production model SW 76's were made, serial # range from U101 to U6100. Production guns had a "U" prefix, early tool rom guns had a "X" prefix, and some early test guns had a "T" prefix. Production started in mid 1969 and ended, I believe, sometime in the 70's.

This information is from Iannamico's "United States Submachine Guns", which is an excellent book. Highly recommended to any subgun enthusiast.

BTW, your caps lock key is on.

Does anyone have additional stamped markings on the S&W 76? Mine is marked "NYS DCS", which I believe stands for "New York State Department of Correctional Services". Serial number U4522.
Any others out there?

I've got one of the early ones, serial # T12xx. It has a different barrel nut retainer and it does not have the S&W logo.

the picture is one I found for an idea. I do not know how the rail is attached, but I imagine the receiver was drill and taped
