View Full Version : Spec Wpns Semi SW760- Several questions

1. Fixed Folding Stock- understand principle of how it is supposed to fold and stay open and closed.
My SW760 seems to have rivets spot welded top and bottom.
All other posts seem to say that they only had to drill out top rivet and replace with screw and spring for tension.
---What did you do for the bottom rivet? Replace it with something? What?
---Do I have to drill out both rivets (top and bottom) and replace?
---What type top screw and spring or other item do you use to replace top rivet and maintain tension to keep folding stock open or closed?
---How do you keep the screws from "unscrewing" under use?

2. How does one disassemble the gun? I received no manual from SOG.
Understand barrel and shroud disassembly/assembly.
---I do not understand how to remove bolt, bolt carrier and charging handle?
I see that there is a large pin at rear of receiver (runs from top to bottom of receiver) that moves but does not come out with finger force.
It seems that if this pin were to be removed, the back cap of the receiver would come out with bolt and bolt carrier.
---Do I tap out this pin softly with hammer and/or brass punch?
---Should trigger be cocked prior to bolt removal?
---How does charging handle come out?

Any help and/or links would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Not sure on dissasembly but Here is a pic of Joe's gun. #6 (http://www.uzitalk.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13181)

It has a good pic of how the spring is attached...

It it is just spot welds you might be able to cut them with a dremel tool without hacking it up...

Sure can't seem to find a parts supplier for them!!! I thought Numrich would have something... But could not find anything on their site...

Brian, thanks for the assistance.

I called SOG (Misty- nice woman) and they said that I should have gotten an instruction book. They are mailing me one. So that may help with the disassembly question.

I will test fire the beast tomorrow.

If it works well, I will get the "ole" demel out and begin to play. I read somewhere that for the folding stock top screw/pin that someone took the screw (pivot pin) that connects COLT AR15 upper and lower and cut off part of a FAL recoil spring for the tension spring.

Too bad I thought there would be more parts available for them... Maybe someone knows...

Brian, found this link for SW76 parts

http://www.mysw76.com/

Apparently, he will email catalog to you upon request.
I did this.
Awaiting catalog.

That would be me. It works quite well. Suomi mags work well too, just don't file too much metal off, little at a time and try fitting. The tighter the fit, the better the function.

Resolved some of the questions from first post.

Gun shoots Walmart Winchester 9mm and some mixed surplus European/Israeli 9mm without fail. Strong primer stikes.

No matter how hard I tighten down sleeve, the barrel does rotate up to 45 degrees or so under extended firing and recoil.
Have not benchrested weapon, but can make a can jump around at 15- 20 yard with no problem.

---Broke out the dremel, and drilled out the top rivet. Good original welding job. That rivet was not that easy to get out.
Found that the holes are a perfect 1/4".
Bottom rivet does not have to be removed. It allows the stock to rotate freely.

To make the folder functional, went to Lowe's and got:
-1/4x20x1" Carriage bolt (61926) 13 cents- has big enough head to keep spring captured.
The one inch long bolt works well- due to receiver tube shape, one inch long bolt can be slipped in from top at angle necessary to fit past tube and fit in holes. One and 1/4 inch bolt is too long. Bolt head is on top.
- 1/4x20 Hex lock nut with nylon sleeve in it (63403) 13 cents- does not work loose under recoil and moving stock from closed to open position and back repeatedly. It fits at bottom.
- Spring assortment (60960) for $3.97- any number of springs work for stock tension.

Only "down" side is that bolt and nut are silver in color. Guess that I could spray paint them to match gun if I felt motivated.
BTW- Gun "finish" (spray paint?) is already wearing off. OK by me

----Found that it was easy to remove bolt in back of receiver. Some tapping from bottom with a brass punch and it backed out the top of tube. Guts poured out- there is spring tension, so be prepared. I cocked weapon and put on safe first. Unsure if this is necessary.
Charging handle comes out side of receiver- match up handle and large hole- easy.

Tried making original Suomi 36rd mag functional.
For Spec Wpns 760 (from SOG)- you have to remove metal from front pad and back latch of mag. Like the mag that comes with gun
Tried with Files....what a workout.
Have a friend with a grinder and drill press. Will be doing other mags the easier way...
Be careful to remove metal little by little. Remove too much metal from back latch or front pad and you change feed angle of mag.

One of the drawbacks of the 76/760 was a barrel that was not notched... It would turn and had no point to keep it indexed.

Sounds like your are carving on the mags a lot more than what I have heard before... Maybe because you have a semi...???
