"FBI Length" barrels

People use the phrase "FBI Length barrels" a lot around here and I'm curious to know if there's anything factual behind it or if it's just a catch phrase that has caught on.

The US Secret Service used shortened UZI barrels so the guns would fit in the Samsonite cases. The barrels were cut to 9.2" (one inch shorter than normal) by IMI specifically for use by the USSS. The FBI never bought UZI's from Action Arms, though it's possible they received UZIs from the USSS or some other source.

Anyone know if the FBI actually used UZIs on any regular basis, where they got them from and if they had short barrels?

I remember that fatboy mentioned it as the" Mossad barrel" is that part true?

My Uzi came with two barrels, an FBI barrel like VegasSMG's from the other thread, and a regular 10.25/10.5" barrel. I cannot remember whether or not the FBI barrel is chrome-lined, however, the factory barrel is. The guy I bought the Uzi from, asked me which one I wanted, his words "The FBI barrel or the regular barrel". He threw in the extra barrel because the transfer took so long (partially his fault). I will post pics when I pick the gun up from my dealer (should be in less than a month as I do Corporate/check cashed two weeks ago). I have the threaded barrel at home now, the FBI one is on the gun. FBI one looks just like VegasSMG's. My Fullsize was converted by Weapon Specialties out of Tempe, AZ, RR w/o Blocking Bar.

So, to answer your question, I do not have a historical reference. However, Mark McWillis also refers to it as the "FBI Length" barrel.
