Hi Fellow Uzi lovers! Have a question for you....what do you folks think of a SPAS 12? I have an oppurtunity to pick one up for pretty cheap (a preban at that, still verifying however) and was wondering if anyone had any thoughts. This board is pretty good for advice:D I shot one when I was 13, but that was a long time ago. Any advice would be appreciated.:)
How can i verify it is a preban? It has a threaded barrel, and I have the serial number. Thanks.

Well... they are kinda kool looking, especially with the folding stock & hook. The SPAS-12 was recalled for mods to the safety lever/button. Hot loads work best in semi & I find the switchover to pump action for light loads to be problematic. They are also a PITA to take apart & clean properly. It's heavy & quite bulky. (....not exactly posterboys for the K.I.S.S. principle)
The Benelli M3 would be a better choice in a defensive weapon as the controls are more intuitive. Parts are a whole lot easier to find as well. I bought an M1 Super 90 tactical & converted it to an *entry* version on a Form #1. With about 200rds break-in time & properly lubed (they like to be wet!)... you can shoot light/tactical or heavy magnum loads with ease. These are some of the quickest cycling semi-auto shotguns available & the craftsmanship is superb! The thing about these inertia cycled guns is that you have to keep accessories to a minimum as additional mass will at some point, compromise their reliability.

I had the fixed stock type years ago, loved it, functioned perfectly, downside it will only take 2 3/4 ammo, kinda sucks when you want a mean looking shotgun and want to shoot magnum ammo.:(

Well, thanks for all the advice, but I've decided to pass on this one. With the parts being so hard to get, and if you can find them, they are so expensive. Simple is always better anyways. But man, do they look neat!:)
Thanks again!:)

They are kinda cool but the complexity & parts are an issue. I believe that was the shotgun Arnold had in the Terminator movie? I know it's a choice in Hitman 2, along with the Uzi. (a great game btw).
