I got to test drive Troys’ (BarrelXchange) caliber conversion kits at Bulletfest on Saturday, June 28. We had initially met Friday at the barn for sign-in, he was out front when I came out.

I can only offer my experience, my firearm is a IMI semi-auto “B”, so that is all I had to work with, and that is what Troy had on hand for demo, semi-auto parts. I used his bolt, it was a 9mm semi bolt, with face opened slightly to accept the slight larger 40/10mm parent case rim diameter, I looked, could not really see diference, at least not for the added .015 radius over the 9mm.

We went to install his demo 40 barrel, but the index flange was a bit larger than the IMI flange (overlap of ears), so it would not index into my trunnion(Troy stated he did not have access to a good IMI trunnion), so I can not offer any 40 specific comments, other than it does use the std 9mm mag (that is what was in hand for demo). The new barrels he had in the wrapper were cut fine and dropped right into place (16“ semi-auto barrels).

We went ahead and installed a mag loaded with 357 SIG, hollow points if I recall--- I was expecting some kind of major bang/bolt thump, but the firearm fired similar to the 9mm, fairly mild, compared to my 45acp stuff I was shooting (RCBS 230 LRN mold w/ 8.5gr AA-#5, real nice bump). All fed fine, eject fine. The 357 SIG was fed from a 41/45 mag (single stack feed), with the lips moved in slightly to retain the rounds in the mag.

For the final test drive, I swapped the SIG barrel for 10mm barrel. Troy gave me a mag of Remington manufacture 180gr in the nickel case, loaded, and fired... recoil was similar to average 9mm/SIG rounds previously fired. I suppose if somebody loaded the 10mm a bit heavier, recoil might be more noticable? As a side note, if you plan to reload for 10mm, you will have to remove a ding at mouth of the case, as with what you all are finding with 45acp, the 10mm case is a whole lot longer, and gets dinged good..... the 357 SIG did not get dinged. Here again, 10mm was fed via the 41/45 mag, fed and eject just fine here.

I think the 40 would be nice for somebody that wants to shoot steel, with probably near identical recoil to the 9mm, loads of brass for next to nothing, especially if you shoot with LE, I have had buckets of brass offered to me. Add a suppressor to the 40, and look out!

I was at a dealer demo shoot ,making a demo video, last week.We used Troy's 357sig and 40 s&w out of a vector full auto uzi.The most surprising thing was the rate of fire,[I would have guessed 1000rpm]
.357sig was 690rpm and on video seemed to speed up then slow down? may have been dirty gun?The 40s&w was 695rpm again seems faster, though both shoot great ,very accurate and controlable. The mini uzi was 950-1000rpm and after shooting both a IMI and vector ,I am sure glad I bought the full size UZI .The mini wins on cool looks but if you want to hit steel (or anything at all )best stick to the full size.As for the video came out almost 3/4 hour long demo of air craft guns to macs.over 30 guns and thousands of rounds. The best thing about trying out 20 differant full autos ,is you sure do find some faults ,my fav :colt m16 6"m3 barrel with beta mag,jap 96 set up 7.62/39,swedish K,and of course UZI. video will be playing at a Pa dealers booth at the next show.rr

It was fun at Bulletfest
Yea, Sorry Hal the 40 barrel I had with me was my original prototype barrel, and not the production barrel, the 357SIG and 10mm were production barrels.
As far as the bolt goes, I had a modified bolt with me for the semi, but we probably could have used Hal's 9mm bolt, just didn't want to dink around on the firing line.....best foot forward ya know.
We could have used a 9mm mag for the 357SIG but I already had a modified 41AE/45 mag loaded so what can I say.

Anyone that is remotely interested in my conversions please email me with your address and I'll get you a brochure.

Troy,

I used your 40 barrel in my full size Vector. Ran great with one 41AE mag, but the others don't load well and don't shoot well.

It is NOT your barrel. I just modified a GG mag by removing slits in the back and bending the lips in to allow the 40 S&W cartridge to sit at the same angle as a 45 would in an unmodified mag. Need to get the slits mig welded and grind off the excess.

Manually feeding dummies worked flawlessly. On to the range next weekend.

I still want a 400 Corbon and 40 Super barrel.

What is the status of your heavy duty spring for the 357 Sig?

I'm holding off on the 357SIG conversion for now, ammo is expensive and so far I have found that you CANNOT use light weight bullets (had a couple of case head seperations with 100gr bullets).
The only thing holding me back on the 400 corbon and others is the cost of the reamer, I've just been too busy to really look into renting them
