View Full Version : Raptor on an Uzi

Last week I had the pleasure of shooting a Gemtech Raptor on a friends 3-lug barreled Uzi and on his MP5A2. The Raptor is a well rated can and we were shooting it dry outdoors. The ammo was Wally World 115 grn Winchester bulk pack.
I would expect a discernable difference between a delayed blowback, closed bolt and an open bolt. However, I was surprised at the actual magnitude of the difference. Obviously the ballistic crack was there with both guns. However, with the MP5, I could stand behind and to the right of the shooter and not need my hearing protection. With the Uzi, I most definitely needed it. It was downright painful. This was observed with SA and FA firing modes.
Maybe this was not a surprise to you guys with cans, but it seemed inconsistent with some of the video I've seen of suppressed Uzis. He was suprised too, but this was the first time he had tried the Raptor on that gun.

Interesting feedback MuzzleFlash. I'll be doing my own test if the form 4 on my Raptor ever gets approved. I'll be using it on an MP5 and a Vector Mini with a Gemtech three lug barrel. I'll be curious to see the difference using subsonic ammo. I think the delayed roller lock operation of the MP5 will be a real advantage for sound suppression though I'm guessing the difference will be much less noticeable with subsonic.

I wonder if the increased back pressure is speeding up extraction on the Uzi. That may explain the very loud bark and the daylight observable flash I could see in the ejection port from my position to the right and behind the shooter (forgot to mention the flash).
Perhaps it would have been quieter with a heaver spring like that on the 45 kit?? Something to try I guess.

If you have a 3-lug Uzi Barrel, how do you get the barrel nut over the lugs?
I enlarged mine, but was curious what others do, and if some one makes custom 3 lug barrel nuts.

They put three notches in the ID of the nut to slide over the adapter. I looked it over and was unimpressed. Looked like it was dremeled kinda crudely. The three lug itself was first rate.
I have found that the open bolt always seem quieter then closed bolt
My UZI is quieter then my HK mp5 with the same suppressor
You should not run the White Box ammo in any suppressor
for it will wear out your first 2 baffles even if its made out of stainless steel
The unburned powders that go through your suppressor acts like hot sand blasting
Not Good!
It is not burning cleaner its just blasting ever thing out and wearing the baffles thin

Here's what a 3 lug conversion done by Gemtech looks like:
