Hey all-
I have finally managed to join the ranks of lucky machine gun owners, yee haww!!!
I recently recieved a very nice Military Reising. Approximately 1942 production judging by the serial number but like all the rest it has little bits and pieces that just don't fit that date quite right according to Frank's book. But since the finish looks original, the stock is stamped with the last 3 digits of the serial number and is in great shape, and the internals show almost no wear I think it is all original. I guess each Reising is kind of unique!
She has the missing compensator rib so common to all Reisings. I sure wish there was a replacement out there.
It came with one 12 round magazine which I found out immediately is laughable with the selector set on FA! So I purchased three of the excellent Christie mags. WOW! Does this thing run like a scalded cat. I timed it at about 950 rounds per minute! I have found that it isn't nearly the jam-o-matic I thought I would be getting. That's not to say I would want to take it into battle, but a quick breakdown and cleaning after each range session and she runs great every time! A new set of springs are on their way as I think these are the originals and after 64 years they deserve a little rest.
But anyway, enough chat, on to the pics!
Just out of the box sitting on my kitchen table on the day it was delivered to my house. How cool is it to have your C&R License and have an MG shipped right to your front door?

From the right side. Notice the reflective silver "City of Harrisburg" property tag on the buttstock. I don't want to peel it off as it is part of this weapons history, pretty cool in my book! Also pictured are my three awesome Ken Christie mags. Why can't they be as cheap as Sten mags?

And finally in good company. A bunch of old soldiers who served their country and have now earned an easy retirement with the occasional bit of exercise. They'll never see mud, rain, snow, etc. again! By the way, the Garand at the top is one of the "new" Springfields. So I guess it doesn't qualify as an old soldier. But it DOES qualify as a tack driver, oh man is that thing accurate! Sorry the pic is so dark, I just suck at photography I guess.

Very nice. If you've not done so already, I highly recommend buying a few watermellons for your next range session. It's fun watching the mellons get splattered by those fat .45 projectiles. :)
Cheers,

Congrats!! They're great guns. Just FYI a member here (Barrelxchange) just started making 50 rd drums for them. I ordered one and will post when I get it. His post is at the bottom of this forum. Enjoy it.

Thanks for the nice compliments everyone! Very gratifying I must say. The pictures the seller sent me didn't do the rifle justice. When it showed up and I opened the box I was blown away!
Now a bit of a dilemma. I have enough money stashed away for another big purchase. I really want a .50 Cal rifle. A local dealer has a Barrett Model M99 with optics for about $4200.00 That same money could get a Sten or a MAC and some goodies. What to do? I already have one pistol caliber subgun, and the THUMP of that .50 is calling my name. I am pretty sure I am going for the Barrett, I'll let you all know though!
Just for fun here is a video of me on my first ever range outing with my Reising. While it has been a long time since my first time behind the trigger of a full auto it was my first time behind the trigger of MY full auto! Enjoy.

Hi PaulF:
Yes, a very nice Reising indeed...... Those 3 Garands ain't too shabby either... :)
I did notice in your Reising video that you were holding the Reising by the magwell. Why not on the forward stock....?
As for the 50cal rifle..... Do you have a place where you can shoot it at 400-500+ yards...? I think shooting a 50cal "anything" under 200 yards is a waste of gun and ammo........ just MHO.
More videos please.....

Hey SubGunFan-
Well, it was my first outing! I have since learned that holding it in the traditional position and actually using the finger grooves works really great!
As far as the .50 goes, the longest range available to me is 300 yards. Laughable for something like a single shot .50 I know.
But darn, I just like that Barrett rifle! I wouldn't mind having it just so I could see it in my safe.
I am going to a fairly large private MG shoot this weekend and there will be lots and lots of goodies there. It is going to be my first chance to shoot a belt fed, I can hardly wait! I will try to get as much video as I can but I make no promises. But anything I get will be gladly shared with the nice bunch here at uzitalk I promise.

Congrats again. Love that feel of shooting the new gun!
On the Barrett, I have a .50 and my only advice is to think about where you can shoot it. Most local ranges here ban it for fear of off range flyers. I only get to shoot the incendiaries at the MG shoots and then only if it is wet and the wind is down. But it is a real woodie maker.

Try Photobucket.com for hosting photos and videos. It's founded and co-owned by an UziTalk member and good friend of mine. They have free accounts and premium accounts. Good to support a gun friendly business.

I bought my 2nd Reising while at a gunshow considering buying a NIB Galil. The dealer wanted $3200. I walked over to Dennins Todd and asked Jen what she had in the $3-4K range. A neice Reising was one of the items, so I bought that instead. ;) Of course, I already have a 50 BMG (AR-50) so it wasn't that particular choice. And I ended up selling that Reising before I even did the F4 for $800 more than I paid for it.
Barret had an M99 deal running last year where you could get the rifle, scope and Pelican case for between $3200-$3600 (depending upon the dealer). Early units also came with a case of the Barret IMI ammo. They later dropped the ammo but didn't drop the price.
The scope that came in the kit as a "OK" inexpensive unit. For the money you are willing to spend I would go with an AR-50 ($2700), Leupold Mk 4 L/RT (4.5-14 or 6.5-20 depending where you will be shooting) ($1000), Leupold Mk 4 Rings ($150), and Prince Bipod and Monopod ($250).
You'll have a rifle that is at least as accurate, if not moreso, with signifdicantly better optics, at the same money.
Or just buy a Sten gun; everybody needs a 9mm subgun ;)

Sorry guys but there will be NO video forthcoming!
I just returned from a 4 hour visit to the Emergency Room. My wife is still there and will be for the next few days, granted in a regular room, not the Emergency room.
She had an accident on the stairs tonight and the doctor described it as a "devastating injury" to her ankle. She is going under the knife tomorrow to recieve a plate and some screws to hopefully get things working in her right foot again.
As my inseperable partner for the last 11 years I can tell you that it feels really lonely typing this message at 20 minutes of two in the morning with her drugged up and miles away in some hospital room. I just can't seem to sleep right now so what better way to vent my frustration?
She would have appeared in the upcoming video as she is an excellent shot and loves to get out to the range and make noise, she likes to see the subguns barking as much as anyone else. You should see her with an MP5! You can even hear her voice tell me "good to go" in the video I posted.
Well anyways, this sucks. I'll keep you all updated. I talked with a friend tonight and he is bringing an MG-42 to the upcoming shoot this weekend, I couldn't wait to get my wife, and myself, some trigger time on that beast.
Thanks for listening.
Sorry to hear about your wifes injury, hope she is doing better. I am sure she would not want you to miss the "pumpkin shoot", bring her some video! Did you get the pm?

Hey drw-
I did get the PM sorry I didn't respond! My apologies.
My wife is out of surgery but on so much morphine she couldn't stay awake so I came home to get some rest myself. Thanks for the well wishing.
I know she will insist on me going to the shoot but with her in the hospital that leaves no one to take care of our dogs and the shoot is an all day affair. Oh well, there will be another shoot in 4 months time and I'll get my belt fed time in then.

PaulF..... My wife just transitioned from a permanment cast to a temporary splint case for her wrist injury. And yes, she got the "new body parts" of "plates & screws" also.......
On one of the doctor visits the doctor said..... "There is a good chance you will develope arthritis in your wrist because... You have pissed off your wrist, and it will never let you forget it". Not good info, but I liked his presentation...
True, an ankle injury can be more of a problem because of the weight they support. I would guess your sweetie will be in pain for awhile. And then crutches... I pity her... poor thing. BUT... she will get better and start chasing you around the house again.

Sorry to hear about your wife. My wife went through a knee replacement two years ago and it took time and patience, but she's doing great. It's sure nice to have a wife that supports and joins in on our hobbies.

Hey Gang!
Thanks to all for the encouraging words on my wife. They are very much appreciated.
She is greatly improved and has some very nasty X-Rays to show off now, lots of screws (9!) and a big titanium plate in there now. We even managed to make a trip to Memphis for Thanksgiving. She hung around our friends house most of the time but myself and a good buddy hit up Sun Studios (AWESOME!) and some good old down South BBQ, oh man I can still taste that brisket! It's back to the doc on Monday to pull the cast off again, take some pics, and see where things stand.
However, on the gun front:
I ended up getting a great deal on the Barrett Model 99 my local dealer had in stock. It was the deal that you mentioned Asmodeous, although sadly lacking the case of ammo. :cry I have been marvelling at this monster though, what a beast! I couldn't get over the sheer weight of it! No range report yet I'm sorry to say. But I do take it out of the safe and set it in the front of the TV on occasion so I can drool over it at night, is that wrong? haha
I am hoping to do some shooting this weekend, maybe even with some video, don't hold your breath though! Check out a couple of pics of my new .50!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b301/paulj1973/M99.jpg
In this pic you can see a .50 BMG, .30-06, and .223 round, wow that .50 is a monster!
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b301/paulj1973/M99right.jpg
By the way, I posted these pics over at TheHighRoad.org so if they look familiar that is why!
Glad to hear that the Mrs. is doing well. Congrats on the Barrett! It will be a love/hate relationship,, everyone wants to have a turn behind it and those with shooting positions on either side will hate it after about 10 rounds!:) Some of these seem to have tight chambers or maybe it is the condition of the brass, but extracting a fired case can be difficult. A friend of mine lubricates each cartridge before loading to ease extraction. YMMV.

Well, I'm dragging an old post out of the graveyard!
I just wanted to say hello to everyone. Here in the frozen wasteland that is Maine things continue to go on much like everywhere else.
My wife is signifigantly improved and this weekend will be a milestone in that we are going back upstairs to sleep in our master bedroom together! Yep, for the last 3 months my wife has slept in our puny guest bed that I set up in the living room on the first floor of our two story house. As she doesn't like to be alone at night I have slept on a futon beside her. So tomorrow night I will once again sleep in an actual comfortable, warm, king size bed! That is going to rock.
I have managed to get in a bit of range time with my Barrett as well my other firearms and met a couple of nice guys in the process. You meet the best people at the range, don't you?
Attached is a video of me with my .50 cal. I have posted it at one other website (thehighroad.org) so don't be surpised if it looks familiar.
I sighted the rifle in with very light (!) 675 grain projectiles then went on to the 820 grain (:eek) spotter/tracer ammo. So accuracy suffered A LOT! But it is still kind of entertaining to watch.
More videos to come I hope. I am off to the range tomorrow and hope to get some subgun footage!
Click on the pic for some .50 goodness.

Nice 50cal................ and nice video.
However, two of your 3 shots at 300yds hit low and ricocheted into the tank (possibly causing the large holes).
Too bad the tracers didn't light up............. :(

subgunfan-
Of the many people that have seen this video you are the first to note the low strikes (one VERY low!), good observation I must say.
There is a very good reason for the low strikes though. Two weeks before this video was taken I managed to put a round over the berm due to a poorly installed scope. The scope was not square to the barrel, the eypiece was elevated and in my haste to do some shooting I put a round over the berm. To say I was worried is an understatement. Thankfully there is about 5 miles of densely wooded area behind this range so the "big woods, little bullet" theory offered me some comfort.
When I got back to the range for this trip I used up the last of my "light" 675 grain rounds getting sighted in at the 100 yard line. When that was done I went to the 300 yard line with the much heavier spotter tracer. I didn't feel comfortable holding over on the first three rounds so I let them fall as they would. The results are now forever recorded on video and safely stashed at photobucket.com! Or is that embarrasingly stashed?
I eventually began hitting where I should but sadly there is no video of that! The spotter/tracer rounds are darned heavy and drop like a rock. As I understand it these are pull down rounds that were once used as a sub-caliber munition in the 105 MM Howitzer as a training round.
In the original video you can see the tracers lighting. Depending on what kind of monitor you have you can see one of the tracers light at the 1:30 mark. My laptop with LCD display doesn't show it, buy my desktop with CRT does.
