Picked up my Micro last night. I want to at least test fire it today before I send it to Vector to have the stock and sling pin installed. It hasn't been fired in many years, In fact the owner said it was only test fired when converted by Fleming, then put away. Anyone have any input as to what type of oil, lube, or grease should be used. I've been using plain gun oils on my other guns. Someone had told me that I should be using some type of grease. It does make sense to me as grease does hold up longer under stress. What do you guys recommend for lubricating fully automatic weapons? Thanks

I posted a few pics for your perusal!

Nice. That looks like a handfull to shoot without a shoulder stock.

M1A, nice looking Micro. Looks like an open bolt gun. Does the bolt have feet on the front like a Mini open bolt? Did Fleming mark the bolt as well as the receiver?

I don't like using grease. It collects too much dirt. Just use an oil of your choice and lube any bolt contact points, particularly the bottom of the receiver and the top cover.

It is an open bolt gun. I'll have to take it apart again in a little while to look at the bolt again. I'll post pics. I've got someone coming over in a minute, and I don't want the gun taken apart on the Dining Room table when they come in. I'll do it after they leave. But I don't believe the bolt was marked.

It probably is. I'll let you know tonight after I get back home. I'm just going to test fire it today, then it goes to Vector for a folding stock, barrel, sling pin, and refinish.

Now all you need is a heavy bolt in 9mm and 45 to complete the setup

(shameless plug)

Even if you don't go with the heavy bolt, I'd definitely have barrelxchange make you a proper Micro barrel with the compensator slots in it. It looks much better and it gets the muzzle a little farther away from your hand.

Way ahead of you. Troy set me up with a barrel last month in anticipation of the Micro coming in. It's sitting in the safe. Slow bolt---Nah, I want to go fast. I'll just have to practice harder to keep it under control!

Here are pics of the bolt:

I for one, LOVE to use grease, (just like my SAI M1A). When I use Militec-1 in my Uzi, the insides look horrible when I pop the topcover off. The first time was shocking - I thought it was rusty - it wasn't. Wipe down with a rag and voila! Clean as a whistle! The fact that the greaes collects dirt is a good thing IMHO - makes it easier to get at and doesn't hide in all the nooks and crannies...mmmm...makes me want an English Muffin and butter... :)

BTW, I went 770 rounds between cleanings and she looks as good as the day I got her - no malfunctions whatsoever.

Sweet micro - can't wait for the range report! Congrats!!

Went down to Delray Shooting Center and ran 3 mags through the gun just to test it out. Holy Crap! It is fast!!! No way I could do a mag dump without shooting the lights out in the range!! It's difficult to control just using short bursts. It takes a lot of concentration to keep on the paper at a short distance. It will be 100 times better after I have the stock put on, but I can see it's going to take a lot of practice to master it. But I'll have a lot of fun doing it!!!

Anybody know the procedure for shipping a title II firearm? I've never done it, but I'm pretty sure I have to get approval or let the ATF NFA Branch know what I intend to do. Right?

No need to get approval. The old form 5 isn't used any more for routine repairs. Just package it up and send it to Vector either FedEx or US Postal.

When I use Militec-1 in my Uzi,

Militec-1 is a dry lube. I have some and love it. But it's application method is a thin coat on fully stripped metal surfaces (no oils or lubes). Fire gun until hot, reapply two more times. But the key is that excess is wiped off during normal operation. Those first 3 or so outings you might want to have a little extra on everything so it bonds to the metal but after that it's an apply and wipe excess off material.

If used in this manner you will not see an accumulation of gunk. Just my results. YMMV.

Thanks RuhRoRorge & Open Bolts! I'm going to try some and see how it works.
