Speaking of which, I wouldn't mind seeing Americans armed with UZIs holding the line at the Texas border with Mexico.

Whoa! What's with the red shirt? Haven't you ever watched Star Trek? The guys in the red shirts are always the first to go down!
BTW -- My son's name is Jamie, another Jew born in San Diego, though he's "ben Halutz". :)
Thank you for "walking the line". Anything you need from state side? (Besides a different colored shirt?)

That doesnt look like a Merkava?

It doesn't look like a Merkava because it is not. It is a British Centurion tank. I think a couple of IDF Centurions even saw combat in Operation Peace For The Galilee in 1982.

The Israelis have many tanks and armored vehicles from WWII and the post WWII era until now They have been upgraded and given Israeli designations.
A lot of their APC's and other armored vehicles are built on converted obsolete tank chassis with the old and/or upgraded engines.
Like the Galil rifle, though no longer front line issue, much of the upgraded obsolete armor is still held in reserve and can still deliver a punch.
If nothing else, the Israelis are resourceful. Nothing goes to waste.
In fact, the Israelis do a pretty substantial business upgrading other countries' obsolete equipment.

That is my UZI (& I am not in the pic). That is not a Merkava (its part of an old '67 memorial on Har Adar).

Oswald you know your stuff!! You are exactly correct on everything you said! Upgrading other countries APCs, AFVs, and MBTs is a huge business for the Israeli defense industry. In Israel the Centurion tank was called the Sho't and it has been heavily mordified and reconfigured from its original design many times. Israel has also captured thousands of Com-Bloc vehicles from 122mm Katyusha Launchers, to T-62s, and BTRs. We keep and use everything against their original owners.:)
