I am going to have my restrictor ring cut and my IMI brought to full SMG specs. Can I use the old barrel with the narrowing for the ring still in my gun? Thanks

Using barrels with the reduced chamber diameter will work fine. If you also have the trunion hole enlarged so you can use standard SMG barrels, then your semi barrel will not fit snuggly in the trunion and the only thing really supporting it is the flange/barrel nut. It would work but is not ideal. My recommendation is to have the full conversion done on your gun, store or sell the old semi barrel, and stock up on some surplus SMG barrels for $25-$30 each.
Hi,
I'm new here. Been fixing Uzi SMG's for about 8 years. We all have our personal tastes.
Barrel Restrictor Ring - OK to cut it so standard bolts fit. Why: The bolt is darn hard to clearance. I've done a bunch. Even hard on carbide. Doesn't do much for a correctly fitted barrel IMO.
Trunion ID from semi to SMG diameter - Not a big fan on this mod. I can cut a SMG barrel to fit a semi trunion in under 1 minute each. Custom fit to a nice fit in 5 minutes. If the trunion is bulged from a squib on a SMG trunion the cusom barrel is a pain to make. A stretched semi trunion just uses a turned SMG barrel as usual.
Sear holes in the reciever - Don't get carried away. I'd have to check my notes but I think they only need to be elongated about .060". Do it on a mill with an .094 cutter and it looks really nice. Just make sure the holes clear the FA sear. I personally use a drop in bushing with a sholder for the pin size reduction. The lower keeps the bushing in place.
FWIW,
YMMV,
