in the Wally World Winchester ammo? Lately, I've had over a dozen, usually one or two in a box here and there.
Last week I had a box with three in it, two crushed and one just crushed brass...no powder or bullet.
The rounds look like they were pinched with a pair of very large diagonal cutters or crushed between some sort of machine.

Can't really complain with the price and all, just curious if its a widespread occurrance or if its just a fluke that it shows up in one batch or geographical area.

These were found in different cases, from different stores(but most likely from the same distribution center).

Just Curious

If they have that poor quality control, I'd question the safety of the ammo period. Glad you said something, I wont be recommending that ammo to my friends. Karl.

while we're talking about this ammo I noticed something about my ejected cases. The brass is blackened on 1 side of the case and seems to have a little dent on the bullet side around the rim. Anybody else's gun do this?

I've burned 1000's of rounds of the Winchester value packed 9mm without a single problem....

The blackened cases are from the gun having a loose chamber( a good thing for SMGs) and gas leaking by during blowback.
Nothing to worry about with this condition, its normal for a properly functioning gun.

Dents on the rim(on the headstamp) would be from the ejector or the extractor.

Can't think of anything that would dent the case mouth during operation, unless its your feed ramp with a burr or otherwise making a tool mark on the ammo as it passes over it.

My guns have the standard ramp and no such mouth denting occurs.

I think its an isolated thing Karl. I just wanted to toss it out here to see if there were any other experiences with it.

For the billions of rounds they produce, I'm sure the failure rate is extremely minimal if not non existant and me getting that many in several cases could be that they were in a part of the ammo that was done during setup or from handling in the factory.

More than likely, someone sweeping the floor was too lazy to walk to a salvage bin to dump his shovel or dustpan and tossed the stuff into a container of inspected ammo. My money would go on this scenario if I were a gambling man.

I'll shoot their stuff as long as I can buy it. It's great ammo. Never had a misfire or any other problems with it. Matter of fact
I did a little comparrison between MAGTECH and Wally World Winchester for accuracy and he Winchester stuff was better out of my guns, a little hotter too.

I wouldn't be too quick to condemn the Winchester stuff yet Karl, theres plenty of it in use out here and haven't heard of any mishaps or failures yet.

Since I store my ammo loose, I burned all my boxes so a Lot # is not available. Don't even think I'd waste my time chasing something like this as it has had no effect on any performance issues except for a dozen misshapen rounds in a few boxes. I figure its bound to happen in any bulk handled product sooner or later.

Its long gone up in smoke. The rounds were encountered across 5 or so cases of the stuff. Random boxes. It was all as clean as the normal ammo, just damaged.

I'm not going to make anything of it as I've not had one single round of the ammo malfunction. So far nobody here who uses it has had the experience, so it must be a pretty slim chance that its a widespread problem. Now if I got a few replies back with similar findings then I might notify someone, but as it stands, I'm not paying for the phone call.

I did raise a real stink with another company that was selling .50BMG ammo, that:
A. Sent me an incomplete order(100 rounds short).
B. Sent me complete junk ammo that I wouldn't have fired under battlefield conditions. Severely dented cases, bent and loose projectiles, dirty and gritty, corroded brass and projos, unidentified substances floating around in two cans, loose gunpowder in all cans(not just a few granules....several grams!)
C. They wanted me to send it back at MY expense for replacement.
D. denied that the stuff was junk even after I sent them photos of it.
E. advertised it as non corrosive, when in fact it was corrosive and had the dated headstamps and undisturbed military crimped primers to confirm it.
F. refused to take my calls after my initial complaint.
G. Failed to live up to the advertising requirements of Shotgun News, in that they must give a full money refund for returned products.
H. They only resolved the situation under threat of lawsuit.

Thats the extent that I've had REAL ammo problems. A few squashed rounds of 9mm out of the many thousands of rounds I've purchased of the same type is not worth persuing....unless there is a repeated malfunction with the ammo, which has not happened to date. If the problem persists then I might make a call, otherwise I'll just shoot it until I cant get it anymore.

I have shot well over my shares worth of WHITE BOX9mm Not a single glitch here either.... Champaign/Savoy, Illinois stores. But I do agree about KEEPING the lot #s. I UNDERSTAND that they are gone, but in the future perhaps....

I have had a few screwed up brass from the YELLOW box (RP) and RED box (federal) But also not enuf to go screaming at the manuf yet....

What I have been told by my buddy is that if one were to send in a bad round(even if its just ONE bad one) then the manf would send back to ya a full box for free.

Surefire Laser/lights is that way with their bulbs... I beleive that MOST companies have a err of margin in their product, and UNTIL a consumer brings it to their attention...well
