I just received my full size f/a Vector Uzi. I fired the weapon at my local range. My problem is, when the fire control is in the semi postion, the weapon fires full auto?? I purchased the Vector new in the box . Should I send the Uzi back to Vector or it this something I can adjust at home?

Some can only be fixed by Vector. Generally, any DOA problems should be resolved by Vector. They do good work and their customer service is second to none. That being said, it probably wouldn't hurt to do a little sleuthing for low hanging fruit causes.

From the description of the problem, I can't tell if you're getting an occasional double or a runaway or a trigger controlled F/A.

Runaways can happen when a buffer is placed in the gun and it's too long. Bad ammo (wimpy reloads?) can be a problem, but that's rare. Basically anything that causes the bolt to go back far enough to strip a round, but not far enough to be caught by the main sear. How does the bolt manually cycle in S/A when the gun is empty?

Take the lower off and pull the trigger in S/A with the grip safety engaged. The main sear should flip forward when it is released by the small sear which cams over on the selector arm. If not, problem could be with the selector arm detents or the like.

There's a good description of the Uzi action and how it works on pages 12-16 of this old manual:

Come to think of it, you should have a similiar manual that came with the gun.

Oh, and welcome to Uzitalk!!

Rod, welcome to UZI Talk. Glad you joined us but sorry to hear the new toy is giving you some problems. MuzzleFlash did a great job with his suggestions. We really need to understand the behavior better before anyone can tell what's wrong. If it turns out to be anything significant, I highly recommend sending it to Vector. Their service is excellent and it will be running 100% when you get it back. I know the thought of sending it away is very disheartening after all the waiting you've been doing but it would be worth it. Vector generally has great turn around time so it won't be gone for long. And there's no paperwork to mess with.

Thanks for your help. I use the 9mm bulk ammo sold at Walmart. When the selector switch is at the semi position, it reacts the same way as if the selector was set at full auto. ON the semi position, it will let me do shot bursts or empty the clip. I hope ths helps. I was thinking of sending the weapon back to vector for a semi ramp and a 22 kit.

Sounds like you should send it back then and have everything done.

So other than the gun wanting to go,go, go, how was it? Was that your first UZI experience?

If your lower behaves the same in FA & SA when removed, you have something very wrong with the selector or sear assembly. Perhaps a broken or missing spring. Send it in is my advice. You may want to chat with Mad Mike at Vector about the semi ramp first. He isn't as enamored with them as many of us are.

Rod,
It sounds like your "trigger sear" pin might be working is way out. But it could be caused by something else. If it is the pin we'd just trade you triggers. Just look at your trigger, there's a small "rocking" part with a flaired pin thru it. If it looks like that pin is working it's way out we'll need to send you another trigger. If not call me. Maybe we can try something else before you have to send the weapon in.

I apologize for my responce time. I had to work night turn (12 hours shift + travel time). I do appreciate everyone who replied to my post. I will examine my Uzi and contact MAD MIKE. To answer ROVER DAVE'S question, this was my first UZI experience I really enjoyed it. I did notice that the weapon rate of fire was a bit slower than the MP5 and the M16 model 635 that I use to own. I haven't shot the Uzi enough to compare it to the MP5 or M16. As far as the 9mm goes, I would take the MP5 over the Colt 635. Once again, thank you all for you help.

I realize I left out MUZZLEFLASH ( UZI TALK LIFE MEMBER) who responded to my post twice. Thank you for your info. I guess I am one of the members who use your site everyday but say little. I do agree that we should give money to UZITALK.COM if we want the site to continue. Rod in Pa.
