Are the 3-lug barrels the same length, from beginning of barrel nut to muzzle, as the MP5? I was wondering if 3-lug suppressors fit right up against the barrel nut like they fit on an MP5 or do they have a gap?

Yes, they are the same as on an MP5 for compatibility.
Yes, there is a small gap.
Below is a picture of my Gemtech MK9k on my 3 lugged MINI Uzi barrel.

There does have to be a small gap between the barrel nut and the suppressor because of the way a three lug suppressor is pushed on and rotated. When Gemtech installs a three lug on either a full size UZI or a Mini UZI, they cut the barrel so the three lug is as close to the barrel nut as possible. If you don't cut the barrel, there's a pretty big gap between the barrel nut and suppressor.

It really depends on what size barrel you start with, and whether not the 3-lug installer chops it down or not.

Using the standard 10.2 inch (260mm) barrel on standard Uzi, yes, you will have a gap if it is not chopped down.

It can't be fully seated or the tri-lugs will intefere with the barrel nut when you're screwing it on. After the barrel nut is about halfway on, you can fully seat the barrel and tighten the nut normally.

I have not experienced that problem with my Gemtech 3 lugged MINI Uzi barrel at all. I put the barrel in my gun fully and screw the notched nut on like normal just like any other barrel.

Mine is a full-size. Maybe that's the difference. The barrel nut slips over the three lug but not past it when the nut is started so I back off the barrel a bit and thread it on.

Maybe Dater got "carried away" when he did mine although a friend has the same behavior with his FS 3 lug as well.

Mine is the same as Muzzleflash describes - on both my Mini and full size barrels, both of which were three lugged by Gemtech. Both of the barrels were shortened as much as possible while still permitting the suppressor to be installed. The barrel nut hits the threads and needs to start turning before the barrel nut clears the lugs - which prevent it from turning. All you have to do is pull the barrel out slightly and turn the nut on a few turns. Then the barrel can be fully seated and the nut fully tightened.

Amphibian, if your barrel nut goes on without pulling the barrel out, then it must have more space between the barrel flange and the lugs.

Mine was done by Doc Dater of Gemtech personally.
My barrel nut goes on fine with the barrel fully installed so I guess mine must have more clearance. Oh well, I'm not complaining thats for sure.

amphibian is your barrel nut hole opened up a bit so its diameter is larger than the lugs?

not the whole diameter. It is "notched" in 3 places to allow the lugs to clear.

So is mine. It looks like this:
