Decided to take my UZI-B to the county Sherrif Office this AM to make sure EXACTLY what I needed to do to make my UZI legal in MI. I expected a big hassel and be told I needed a longer barrel and or fixed stock. The gal at the desk did not know what to do with it so she called a guy out who (supposedly) knew what to do. He then proceeded to measure the total length of the UZI with the stock folded. Now I'm thinking "here comes the bad news".........Then he says "it's under 30" so we'll have to register it as a handgun. Then they proceeded to issue me a registration permit for the wepon:D

Needless to say I'm a happy guy today! No alterations needed. Maybe I just got lucky, because I know from reading other posts that others in Mi have had to change stocks and or barrel lengh to keep UZI' in Mi. Now that I have an Official permit for it I'm going to rest easy and enjoy it in its original state.

Would the fact that the Model "B" is now "technically" a handgun under MI law allow the use of a short barrel?

Under MI law possibly, but it would still be an SBR under federal law. So I guess it depends on which prison system you prefer, state or federal.:D

Good Point! :D Check please!!! :angel3 This situation does pose a few interesting legal issues though. Bottom line is that the "regal" guy gets to enjoy his toy without having to "butcher" it, and has the FULL support of the County Sheriff to boot! It's good to be the King! :D
