It would seem that I have a problem with my UZI. It is a registered receiver, model B. Action Arms conversion done by Bill Fleming.

My gun has never really run right since the day I got it. The issue that haunts me is failure to feed. I have tried new recoil springs, jacked with mags, differnet ammunition etc. but this might be my problem and I would like some opions.

I participated in an MP5 class on Saturday (I was the only Uzi) and I had to borrow a gun after about 20 minutes and only getting 5 rounds off. We were doing some drills in semi mode, and I was buried with FTF issues. Upon disassembly of the gun, it was noticed a very small deformity on the bolt face where the ejector rides in the grove of the bolt. I hope you can see it in my pictures. This was not noticed before. Could this be the cause of my frustration? What might cause this and what remedies might I pursue.

When I gave up on my gun I tried to release the bolt by pulling the trigger, but it would not come home. It only did so after the third attempt.

I read all the time about how robust and reliable people's Uzis are, but mine isn't one of them. Please take a look at the pictures and let me know what you think.

Thanks in advance.

Seems like an easy to check would be to try a different bolt.

If that doesn't do it, you may want to send the gun to Vector. I don't have any direct experience with their Uzi tweaking, but others have reported good results.

Yeah, it wouldn't be a bad idea to have a spare bolt anyway, considering how cheap they are.

Remove the recoil spring/rod and put the bolt back in the gun. Remove magazine, put selector on full auto and hold the trigger down. The bolt should slide freely and not hit anything and you tilt the gun forwards and backwards. If it sounds like it's hitting the ejector then you definitely have a problem. Try a new bolt first. if that also hits, then the ejector must be too tall or bent.

Looks like there is something on the bolt face, almost like a casting or machining flaw?

Did you have an OOB any time in the past, almost looks like a bit of case is "welded" to the bolt face. Show us a picture of the firing pin/bolt face.

If you are able to get 3-4-5 round in a burst then down time, please check the inside of the receiver.......on the ejection port side......a buddy of mine has a Fleming built RReceiver gun and the bolt blocking bar was not removed all the way and there a small section of weld or blocking bar material that also impinged (Sp) on the bolt travel......it slowed te bolt just enough to cause a FTF.

Try what Dave advised By removing your recoil spring.

Also, drop your trigger group and make sure there is no crap left from the front selector blocking barof the convrsion process.....this would allow you to check your ejector height also.

Let us know.....how it comes out. The good thing about a Registered receiver conversion is that you can use any IMI bolt with no problems......some of Fleming's later work was not finished as it should have been......but it is an easy fix........also use Sentry Solutions' black moly lube and powder treatment on the bolt rails and inside the receiver......reduces friction and wear on the Uzi & allows fast clean up without a wet lube.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I will get a second bolt and give that a try. I checked where the blocking bar was on the receiver and that is totally smooth with no wear signs on my bolt.

Just ordered my new bolt from Vector today. I'll let you know how it all turns out.

I had a half a$$ conversion B model, registered reciever from years ago. I sent it off to Vector for "correction". $275 and two weeks I received a sub gun which was done the "right way". I can't sing the praises of Vector loud or long enough. Super service, a great job, and very resonably priced. Give them a call if the bolt change doesn't work. Good luck.

I didn't shoot my RR Group Industries gun for about ten years due to constant FTF problems. I had had a OOB discharge years ago and had not connected the two. Once I discovered Uzitalk and read some suggestions I did some experimenting and found that there was too much clearance between the top cover and bolt. A new topcover fixed that, I think the original had been bowed a bit. Another cause of FTF can be a mag catch that positions the mag too low, this can sometimes be detected by pushing up on the mag while firing.

Right now parts such as topcovers and bolts are available and cheap-do some parts swapping and you'll likely find your problem.

Thank you for all the suggestions. If the bolt doesn't fix it I will just send it off.

Thanks again.
