Is it illegal to own a 10" barrel if it can fit into a semi?

You should not own a 10" semi barrel AND a semi-auto gun it would fit into. The ATF could consider that "constructive possession".

You should not own a 10" barrel unless you had a reason to use it legally.
Why risk trouble for yourself?
I have 2 full size semi auto Uzi receivers that are registered as pistols. I can use a 10" barrel in them legally.
If I did not have those receivers, I would not own a 10" barrel.

10-4, I'll stick to the 16". How much trouble is it to get a SBR?

$200.00 an ATF Form 1, engraving the weapon, and a CLEO sign-off and a lot of patience....It's not that bad....

Similar to buying a machinegun. You fill out a form 1 in duplicate. Have sheriff sign them, attach photos, add finger print cards, citizenship form and $200. When you get the approved form back you can make/buy a short barrel.

Would converting it to a legal class 3 SBR increase/decrease value or would the value stay the same?

Don't SBR a gun unless you plan on keeping it. It's hard to find a buyer because the gun isn't worth any more and there are one or two $200 transfer taxes to pay to get it to a buyer. Plus most buyers don't like an SBR with someone selse's name engraved on it.

You can also send it to Vector to have them SBR it under their name and then they can transfer it directly to you on a form 4.

Has anyone ever done that before?

I might be the first.

I've got my Uzi there right now, and I had to convince Rex that it could be done this way. He didn't know it could be done......

BTW, I see nothing wrong with have a 10" barrel for a semi. "Constructive possession" is a term that seems to have been used a lot by the tin hat people.

No one has ever been prosecuted for it.

If you have 10 years and $250,000 to risk you will not end up as Bubba's bitch at club fed, go for it. Let us know how YOUR decision works out for you. As for me, I would rather spend the $200.00, and sleep well at night.
