I just picked up an unfired IMI model "B" with the box and all acessories. I have a few questions..

1) I paid 1k for it, which I thought was a good deal...Any thoughts?

2) Any way to tell when it was manufactured based on serial? The serial is SA 386XX

3) Is there a place to pick up an original wood non-detacable stock and necessary bracket?

4) What do the original .45 converision kits go for? Any good sources?

Can someone help with re-sizing some pics of the rifle?

thanks

Greg

Hi Greg, welcome to the UZItalk, $1k is the going price for any IMI full size Model B so if yours is unfired, in the box then that is a good deal. There is a reference section on this site (as you come in) that has timelines of the UZI. I believe it is there that you will find year by serial number. There are places you can buy a wooden stock (check the classified section here first for the best deal and then the online gun auction sites..I bought one from Centerfire Arms online and it was part of a package that included the stock, three 32rd magazines, a canvas magazine pouch and a sling, all military surplus, all in excellent condition for $79. This was last fall but per their lastest flier they have them back in stock. These are quick detachable stocks and the harware had to be modified to make them 'fixed' stocks. I had this done by a member here. He did an excellent job. Do a search for detachable stocks and fixed stocks and you will find a thread with pics of his services. His name is Teps71 and there is a link on the main page to his work called 'Installing A Wooden Stock'. Since the original .45 cal conversion kit is no longer made you will have to buy it second hand. Currently I see them for around $250. Be aware that if you just want to collect it, that is a good price. If you plan on shooting it then the magazines are hard to find and cost quite a bit. There are newly manufactured conversion kits for both the .22 and .45 caliber. Check the classifieds here and then check the online gun auction sites. Vector Arms is good for anything UZI. If you are planning on posting pics here they must be no larger than 180kb if they are in the common jpg format. This can be done with most photo editing software. I use Adobe Photoshop for all my photo editing. There are many less expensive software programs available for resizing photos. You can do a Google search on resizing photos to find out more. My biggest tip to you is to really go over this site with a fine toothed comb. It is the only site like this if you are serious about UZIs. Over 90% of the questions asked in the forums can be answered by reading the reference material stored here. Another good tip is to donate to support this site. It is worth it. Good luck with your UZI and post a pic when you get the hang of it.

Thanks guys for the replies..I'm glad to hear the price was inline..

I was reading the serial table and it looks like this rifle was probably made in 1983..maybe 1984 at the latest. Ive shot the FA full size Uzi at Quantico back in the early '90's, but never a semi..looking forward to shooting it.

I was reading the model "A" model "B" comparisions and this rifle appears to be inline with those conclusions.

Any idea on how many rifles were imported on a yearly basis? I also own HK products and know they are broken down by year..

Any good sources for magazines and which are prefered 25 or 32 rounds?

Welcome aboard Greg... you'll enjoy it here... good folks and very helpful.

Best source for .45 mags probably Gunbroker or other auctions, but expect $80-100+ each.

Lots of sources for 9mm and can do for less than $20 each if you watch.
