Is it normal for the recieving dealer to hold on to your weapon for 1 or 2 days after recieving it before letting me take posession. Even after I called and they know I am waiting for it and they know it is there. I am not impatient but figure I paid for the gun I should be able to get it?

No.

But it's not as important to him as it is to you.

I'd ask him about it, and if you don't get a satisfactory answer, don't use him anymore.

They told me something about standard ATF forms that need to be completed?

Nope, no reason for it and unless he had a good excuse i wouldn't do business with him again.

As soon as it logged into his log book it can go out the door.
I have had my firearm picked up as soon as the Postman left the package.

Maybe it just their policy? But its not required by ATF.

I've heard from friends out there, that they're hard to deal with at times.

Well, I wrote them a nasty email this morning. Then called again an hour later, and all of a sudden its ready for pick up.

Unless there's some local or state statute mandating that all firearms be traced and/or held, there is no reason to hold any firearm.
