Yeeeeah.
He definitely doesn't know what he has OR he's the ultimate in stupid.
I pray that it's the former.

Maybe it was a sting operation.

Is that a ratcheting top cover?

The top cover has the notches cut into it so I assume that it was or is a ratcheting topcover.

It really makes one wonder... I saw anoter IDIOT posting on another site a while back that he had an AK that had the 3-round burst feature and he was looking to trade it for a nice AR-15.
At first, I really thought is meant it was a tantal or something of the sort with the fake selector...
Well, the fool later confirmed that it was not a "automatic" as it oly shot 3-rounds with each trigger pull. They had NO CLUE what they were saying could land them in jail for 10-years and $100,000 in fines plus lose their rights to every own another gun as long as they live! I never got the full story, then again I sure was not going to swap E-mails or PMs with someone like that in case the BATFE decide to look at his "friends".
Some people really don't understand and this fool may only have a semiauto lower on this and they never knew it would shoot full auto with swaping the grips? OR Perhaps it is a BATFE sting operation looking for people to e-mail asking if this shoots full auto so they can give them a long talking too.
I remember a number of years ago I was at a gun show and there was a guy walking around with an AR-15 lower, I don't remember the make, and it had this god aughful paint job. He only wanted something like $600 for the complete gun so I looked it over and poped the pivot pin. The insides of the lower had been milled to M-16 specs and I could see that the auto sear hole had been drilled and filled with what I thought at the time was epoxy but now I know it may have been JB Weld.
Regardless, I handed it back to the seller and asked him if he knew that this was converted to shoot full auto at some point and that that gun could land him in jail for 10-years... He got spooked and left the show so my guess is he did know what it was. Someone else that didn't know what to look at or for, really wouldn't know!
The same applies for an AK with that third hole or the slight cut in the one rail. If you never got to look at a full auto AK and a semiauto AK I doubt you would be able to tell one was full auto and the other was not. It is a buyer beware kind of world but when people post stuff like this in an auction, I really think they just have no clue that they have what they do but ignorance is no defense!
Pay your taxes and buy Pre-86! Much cheaper in the long run plus you can actually take them to the range and shoot them!

Your JB Weld story brings back a memory.
At SAR 2005 (but at the main Crossroads show in a different building), I found a guy at a table with a bunch of AR-15s. Upon closer inspection I found that they were all factory Colt M-16s that were US PROPERTY marked. The guy used JB Weld to block up the sear holes and was selling them (as per his signs) as "Semiauto conversions - COLLECTIBLE!"
I'm glad I didn't even physically pick one up- it's nice to know there's no way that my fingerprints could be on those.

We should start a thread about NFA horror stories... :) I was at a gun show, in Massachusetts no less where violating gun laws is very bad juju. I spot a guy walking around with a Colt AR-15. He has a piece of yellow paper taped to the barrel like a sign as he walked around - here's what it said:
For Sale:
Colte AR15/M16
10 Clips
bypod
slang
ammonition
runs fast
$650
Now, this was a good deal on a decent looking Colt HBAR, so I stopped him
and asked to see the rifle. He was very friendly, and handed over the Colt, saying: "It runs really nice - really fast" and he winked.... Not thinking he was trying to pick me up, (ew), I went on to say: "Fast how?" ... He looked over his shoulder and motioned for me to walk closer - stepping to the end of the table near the corner of the floor. He popped the pin, tilted up the rifle and said: "check it out dude".... It was a lightning link. :slap
I literally took the bandana out of my back pocket, took the gun from him closed it, latched it and began to wipe down any spots I may have touched. "What are you doing that for?" he asked.... "Have a nice day" I replied - "enjoy prison" .... He melted away from the show and I never saw him again....
The End

Damn.
Was it a genuine COLT marked AR-15, or SP1?
Hell, for $650 I would have instructed him to take out the Link and destroy it on the spot.
COLT AR-15 with ammo and accessories for $650...that's my kinda deal.
As far as "NFA" goes, there is not a show I have gone to in 4 years where I don't see a unregistered SBR, SBS, or an AOW sitting on a table.
Just for laughs; around here people think 922(r) is a state highway that runs through the Northern most corner of Putnam county. :)
