Well, another Tulsa gun show has come and gone. I’m sure some of us are suffering from post traumatic gunshow disorder. I have all the symptoms. Sore feet, depleted cash balance, second thoughts about all the things that I didn’t buy. That strange tingle when I fondle all the neat little gadgets that I did buy. New friends met, old friends seen again. And wondering why we do this to ourselves. We get up early, drive for hours to park a half mile away. Stand in a really long line (with a full bladder). And then try to see each and every table in the place because that magic bargain could be hidden anywhere. We eat really bad and overpriced food, usually standing up, and when it’s all over we spend the drive home rehearsing the lies we’re going to tell our wives. We think we can stop. After all it’s just a gun show. We don’t HAVE to go. We are men. We are MANLY men. We can control our urges. We could stay home and mow the lawn. YEAH RIGHT!

Anyone know when the next one is?

Best part of the trip was meeting up with some of our Uzitalk gang. What a great and interesting bunch of guys. For those of you who haven’t met Jarhead Jim, he is a hoot. Never met a real moonshiner before. However Firefighter cost me 300 bucks. Found me a deal on a new receiver.
Uzibuild # 5. (See, no self control). Tomorrow it’s back to the real world...

Life is good.

The Tulsa show is so good in ways, and so bad in others.

I was there for 5 hours on Friday too (dealer set-up day) and saw many things I was intrested in. That's the good...
Saturday I woke up at 1 A.M. and could not get back to sleep!!
I was thinking of walking down the aisles looking at gun parts.... finding deals... buying parts... finding that steal of a deal. I was awake for hours.
That's the bad..... couldn't sleep. The only time I was excited waiting for the alarm to go off.

I found someone selling Mini Uzi bolts and striker/firing pin assemblies. He had like 8 of them. I stopped back there first thing Sunday morning to chat with him. The man was a very nice person. Very into guns and parts.
His name was Bill Flemming. Anyone heard of him? :jester
I chatted with him for quite awhile. Great guy!!
I did buy and hope to be buying some more parts from him.

I own my apologies to Gutshot. I happened to see a bare receiver for sale earlier that day and mentioned it to him. He wouldn't leave me alone until I took him to it!! I'm glad you found what you wanted. :gym

The first thing Jarhead Jim did was to offer me some homemade deer jerky. Right up my alley. It was great!! If I lived closer to him, we'd both be in prison, or living with Hugh Heffner, by now.

What a great bunch of guys we have here.
I look forward to the next time.
Cheers to all of you. :beer

As far as Uzis and parts go the trend seems to be toward less and less. Never saw a single Uzi parts kit. Lots of other kits but no Uzi. Some misc. stuff here and there. Lots of mags. Even saw some NIB 45 mags for $110.00 ea. (and kept walking). We've been hearing it for a while now. Parts are drying up so get 'em while you can.
As for full size semis, a few of the usual dreamers selling mod A carbines for 1400 to 1600 bucks. Some guy had a POS Norinco that was beat to hell for $800.00. Didn't see a lot of real bargains on ammo either. But who cares, it's a gun show! There is bound to be something there that a guy can't live without. Since FF found me a new receiver (and by the way he really twisted my arm to get me to buy it, I suspect he was on commission) :jester I now have a new project. This will likely be my last build so I'm going to have some fun with it. Stay tuned.

Gentlemen!

If you happened upon any of the above that might have caught your eye, could any of you tell me what was there as far as:

part kits?

Curo/relic rifles?

Antique military rifles?

.......

Did you take any pictures?

Deadline

The short answer is all the above.

Lots of parts kits for the AK types. Some Soumis, Stens, etc. . Same type of kits you can find on Auction Arms. Saw one that was advertised as a 9mm grease gun. (That would be rare) Tons of antiques. Flintlocks, matchlocks, wheel locks. Lots of percussion pistols, derringers, palm pistols and other oddities. Civil war, old west. WW-1 and WW-2. You name it and you can find it. Over the years I have really enjoyed looking at the “old stuff”. Some of these guys have small fortunes in some of these guns. I have seen many marked in the tens of thousands of dollars. Most are nice guys and are glad to tell you about them. The real hard core antique collectors seem to migrate to one area at the east end of the upper level. There are literally millions of dollars worth of collector guns in that area.

One fellow let me examine (and fondle) an original Walker Colt 44. Price, $36,000.00.

There is a lot of history there, right at your fingertips. When my son was young we spent a lot of time in that area. We both got a priceless education.

No pics. There is a sign at the entrance that says no cameras. Go figure.

I did see a guy with about 8 uzi part kits a guy selling a uzi pistol for $800 no real uzi parts I did see a 45 uzi clip 10rd for $25 bucks picked that up fast. Some guy was selling uzi clips for $40 that was a rip right down the same isle there was a guy selling 3 for 60. I really wanted to see a mini uzi so I could buy didnt see one single one. What was up with everybody carrying a g3 replica rifle I at least seen 10-13 people carrying that gun either buying or selling. Kinda wanted to get one so I didnt feel left out but didnt see any for sale only the real hk91 for around $2-3000. What was up with all the old rifles I walked through a couple of isles with just crap. Later walked again and looked like not one rifle was sold. I personally like pre ban rifles or modern rifles not antiques that nobody is really going to buyfor around $2000-3000. I did see a guy walking with a wad of 100 in plain view looked like he had at least 8 grand in hundreds hope he made it to his car alive.:ak

But being up for 40 straight hours took it's toll! I made it home with a little cash.....very little. We took turns driving the 9 hour trip home. Made it home in time to try to convert a .45 1911 40 round drum mag. into a greasegun mag. I lost my temper after 4 hours and am still finding pieces of it all over my shop.:silly I'm getting ready to reserve reservations for a motel again already. Sure wish I had @ $1000.00 to bring next year!

Hey Firefighter, did the jerky give you the shits yet?:jester

Jim

I had such high hopes for you on that drum conversion Jarhead!!
I just can't picture you losing your temper. :lol

The jerky was great!! I eat deermeat all year long so it would have never bothered me. I liked the large round shape of it instead of it being in strips.
Good stuff my friend. :thumbs_up

Deadline 222:Both Jarhead and I had 9 hour trips. I will be doing it again for the fall show. It is worth it in my opinion.
As someone once said, gunshows are getting to be somewhat of a showcase in ways. Prices seem to be going up, and good deals are getting harder to find. I guess it's just the thought that there COULD be a good deal that is the lure.
I sometimes wonder if the conception of auction sites like Gunbroker etc.... have taken some of the items that would have been for sale at gunshows and put them into internet sales.
If you haven't ever experienced a big gunshow, you should try it just once.
I don't think you'd be sorry.

Is there a date published for fall funfest?

I'm going to ask my buddy for sure if it doesn't get posted by someone else first.

Deadline: You of all people should try to attend. There were truck loads of old military rifles there. Bayonets, parts in mass bins, sorted by make and model, etc. You'd better wear a cup though....you'll have a woody in no time. You have to picture a building that can measure 11 acres under one roof, tables end to end and just enough space for 2 people to walk through at the same time. If you do go, get to the main doors at 7:00 am. You'll wait for an hour to get in, but if you don't get there early you'll wait in line for up to twice that long. I heard a guy say he had to wait in line in the parking lot clear to the east end of the building. Took him over 2 hours to get in.

Firefighter, just the spring shows for me......Trying to save up for the SARS show in Oct.

It was mentioned about waiting in line to get into the show. If you get to Tulsa before 6p.m. on Friday, Tulsa Police Supply has tickets for sale in advance. They are $10.00, and you can go to the front of the long line and get right in. I don't have the exact adress, but they are located on Admiral Street on the South side. I was inside by 8:05 Saturday morning.

overseas......Anywhoo they ask for exact change of $10.00. But for the guys that stood in line for an hour, to watch a buss load of guys butt in line.....they got frowned upon, but we got our tickets right at the front door.
. Yes, we who had the exact change got right in.
