how exactly is it different then a semi? The reason I ask, is that the gun seems oddly complicated for a semi auto, even as 'simple' as it is. Just curiousity....I marvel at the gun, but it seems like an odd design for a full auto...

A few major differences are:
F/A fires from an open bolt and has a solid bolt with a fixed firing pin vs. the S/A bolt and stiker assembly
S/A has a blocking bar in the receiver that will not allow a nonstotted F/A bolt to be intalled
F/A trunion has a larger opening allowing the larger diamiter F/A barrel to be used
F/A has a three position selector that allows the gun to fire full auto

exactly as I thought...I thought I had read somewhere that they fired open bolt. Interesting design, though, for a semi auto. It is very simple, but what does everyone think about the fireing pin length? And dureability?

It doesn't have a firing pin. It is a one piece bolt (open bolt) with a "little bump" milled out to set off the cartridge’s primer. Most (but not all) open bolts work this way.
