A few weeks ago, I received one of Herr-Pears brass catchers off eBay. This was a pre-production model, and as it turned out, was flawed on one of the dimensions. The result was that when mounted, it set somewhat forward of the rear of the ejection port. Even so, this unit worked correctly about 98-99% of the time. About once every 4-5 mags, it would spit a case out behind the catcher. A couple of times it kicked a case back into the action, bringing things to an abrupt stop.
I contacted Herr-Pear about this. He found the error, and immediatly sent me another corrected catcher. To date, this one has performed flawlessly! Maybe I am just getting old and lazy, but it is great not having to walk around emulating a chcken when I am through shooting!
I love the design!! I have used various brass catchers on various weapons over the years. This is the only one that I haven't been afraid I was going to break (plastic) or screw up the gun's finish (metal) or both, when taking it on and off.
The only contact points on the weapon are thrugh the rear retaining pin for the trigger group and a rubber to metal contact point on the topcover. Even if wear should occur, these would be easy parts to replace should your sense of aesthetics be offended.
It is very easy to take on and off. It holds a pretty copious quantity of brass, is lightweight, and works great. Plus judging from my experience, Herr-Pear stands behind his products.
In short, if you are looking for a brass catcher, I would reccommend that you give one of these a try!
