SBS Question (Form 1)

I currently have a Form 1 in to turn my 870 into an SBS. On barrel length, I have 12 in. I'm now thinking about having it cut down even further to have a 9 in barrel. I've been told once its an SBS, its an SBS and you can put any barrel length on it.

Is this true?

Typically you can put any length barrel on for temporary use (say you want to put a long barrel on to take it out hunting one weekend) but if you want to make a permanent change like you're suggesting, you should notify the ATF to have your form ammended.

Dave...Thanks for the guidance.
Now my question is: Since my form 1 isn't approved, once it is approved, must I wait to cut my shotgun down to a 9 in barrel (the paper form 1 has 12 in barrel) after I send in and receive an ammendment? or can I proceed just insuring I do send in the required paperwork to add the extra barrel length?

Just want to make sure I stay on the up and up.:)
