View Full Version : MAC ???
I'm still waiting on the approval of my fullsize Vector, but I've always wanted a MAC in .45cal.
I would like to get a Powder Springs, but which types should I definately avoid, I've heard the "Texas MACs" aren't good due to inferior or not complete welding, but I have seen them that are advertised as having a complete weld, would these be OK or should I avoid them. What about the Jersey MACs or other brands?
Thanks

I have an SWD 9mm MAC-10 and it is fine. I would stick with Powder Springs or SWD.

I have both a Mac 10/9 RPB overstamp and a Powder Springs and they both run fine and have no wear issues. I think that likely by now all the Texas Mac's have been welded properly, but I would check any one I was going to buy very closely.

The Powder Springs are the most desireable, the SWD finished ones also have full welds, the Jersey ones & the texas guns not made in lingville are the ones that might need attention.

I thought I heard that the Jersey and Texas MACs use different parts than the SWD/PS and that replacement parts are hard to find. PS MACs are only a couple hundred more than Jersey/Texas MACs so me personally would only consider a PS.
Thanks!
Powder Springs it is!
Anyone have one for sale? :D

The M10s in .45 are a bear to shoot. The M10 in mm are nice, but the mags are very expensive. Both are heavy
My pick would be an SWD M11 9mm with a sten conversion.

I don't find the M-10/.45 to be all that bad. Then again, it's not a gun you'd likely want to choose when spraying a target more than 25 yards away or so :) I've yet to buy a suppressor for mine (still waiting on the Gemtech Viper.45), but I've been told that's the best way to tame the beast. I'd love to have a little more between my hand and that muzzle as well! :D

Can you get the sten conversion in any MAC (IE:380,9mm,45)

Holy year old thread batman!
agusta, I believe the sten conversion is only available for M11/9mm, as they are 9mm mags.

The M10 in .45 is not bad, it does have more recoil than a 9mm of course but it is manageable. I have hit drums and such a 50 plus yards with mine at shoots eaisly. The sliding wire stock needs to be replaced for better control in MHO.

The only two mac family smgs that can take the sten mags that I am aware of are the M11\9 and a M10\9 that uses modified sten mags. In M10\9s bolt might be a issue depending on what type in in the gun (single or double feed mag). Practical Solutions does do a UZI mag conversion for the M10\9s that is neat. They put on a UZI grip and you can get a mini side folding stock. If I had a M10\9 that is the way I would go. I do have a M11\9 that I converted over to take sten mags that I am happy with. Hope this helps.
Since I started this thread... here's an update:
My PS MAC10/.45 should be approved any week! :D
Thanks Kathy at EliteIron!
And thanks to everyone here for their suggestions!

Actually the .45 grease gun mags are quite affordable at about $12 for the NIW 30rd mags. Now the 9mm double stack mags for the M10 9mm, are expensive at about$100 a piece.
