Hey guys, long time lurker here - came out of the woodwork because my new to me uzi isnt running right - it's running like a brand new 1911 right now and I asked around and there are two prevailing thoughts.
My stockbroker, who has a group industries gun that never ran right until a smith took a few thousandths off his barrel because there was a headspace issue - says that my IMI/Frankford conversion with a group industries bolt probably has the same problem.
The other thought amongst the uzi guru crew is that my group industries bolt is probably it because they never seem to work right to begin with and I should just throw a different bolt in it.
I thought hard about both those two postulations, and I cant figure out which sounds more accurate. Your thoughts?
Also, while I was bolt hunting - I've wanted to grab a parts kit or two but I havent been able to find very many. Wheres a good place to grab one?

Let's help you define the problem, then plan an appropriate solution. What was wrong with one or the other Uzi of others may or may not be wrong with yours. It could very well BE the bolt, but let's not automatically jump to conclusions. The cause of the problem may well be something else, too.
Please describe in detail what you mean by "not running right." What exactly IS is doing, and NOT doing?
What ammo are you using?
What magazines, and have you disassembled and cleaned them?
Have you removed and cleaned the extractor and it's bore?
Is the barrel nut tight, with no fore-and-aft or rotational movement of the barrel?
How is the ejection of empties when it does so? Do they just spill out over the port onto the ground, or do they kick out with some force and distance?
How is the fit between the pistol grip and the receiver? Pretty solid, or is there some movement?

Worthless Bitch.
Now thats out of the way, I can say that I recently had a problem with my IMI gun. It frequently would fail to eject and stovepipe. I tried new recoil spring, extractors, and a new ejector. I finnaly tried throwing in a bolt from a SARCO pa

Are you talking about a semi auto or a full auto?
What's wrong with a brand new 1911?

It was late, I was tired. It's still late, I'm still tired, so I'll try and get into the details.
Failure to fire, repeatedly. The occasional double feed. Bolt goes forward and dosent quite set off the round and when I open the bolt and shake things out and start again, I'll get a round hanging up occasionaly.
This is running on full auto.
Set to F, it runs on two round burst quite fine.
Using remington UMC and WWB.
IMI mags, used in a friends uzi - mag is fine.
Havent taken out the extractor and bore, gun is practically brand new.
Barrel is tight
Brass is flying like it should, no play in the gun.

Try the usual stuff. See if the ejector is loose. It should not pivot about the rivet.
Take a mag apart and remove the recoil spring from the gun. Insert the mag and rock the gun back and forth to see if the bolt freely slides back and forth while pulling the trigger (it should). Try a new recoil spring. Try tweaking the mag feed lips. If possible, try your parts in another FA gun to see if you can isolate the parts. I had similar problems that included weak ejection and a new bolt seemed to fix everything. Worst case, vector might be able to help.

If the bolt is going forward but not detonating the round, it could be your bolt is dragging. Your recoil spring maybe doesn't have enough 'pop' anymore as well. My .22 kit does this when it gets dirty. The bolt slows down and doesn't have the inertia to chamber and fire the round. UMC ammo sucks for most MG's.

Thanks guys, Just for the hell of it, I did a borrow a bolt and it started running just fine till we switched to rem UMC.
Wheres the best place to get a new bolt and recoil spring? I searched the for sale forum but I didnt see one. If anyone has a spare they could part with, please PM or email me

I own 1 F/A Vector Uzi, 2MKII Stens and a DLO tube Sterling and none of them work right with UMC. Its VERY underpowered. I got doubling, runways, misfeeds ETC. All my guns will eat most anything else without a problem. American eagle, Wolf, WW white box, US milsurp Blaser brass. the list goes on. Ditch the UMC

Just shoot the UMC in your pistola:handgun

Ok, now that we've established that UMC wont run a subgun properly getting back on topic, where can I get a bolt and a recoil spring?

+1 www.vectorarms.com I get pretty much all my UZI parts from them.

My IMI S.A. never malfunctioned in over 13,000 rounds - until I bought one box of Remington UMC, then it double-fed, stovepiped, and finally the bolt stuck shut until I disassembled it. When I went back to Federal, Win, my handloads, it returned to perfect functioning.
It also doesn't work with Blazer aluminum or Blazer Brass.

I read somewhere (probably on here) that blazer should be avoided in Subguns due to the chance of the case exploding, being aluminum vs steeel or brass.

Ok, time for good news bad news.
I got another bolt. Threw it in the gun. Wouldnt move. Couldnt even open it.
Realized that the gun isnt a full SMG conversion - I guess someone took the phrase "NEVER TAKE METAL OFF THE REGISTERED PART" a little seriously. This bolt is now rubbing against the restrictor ring and its not moving at all.
I swapped extractors from the GI bolt and I'm having the same issue. Theres something wrong with that GI bolt that is driving me nuts. Anyways, the new solution appears to be....
1. Send the gun to Vector and have them cut the restrictor ring.
2. Same as 1, except have them bore out the trunnion so it can take an SMG barrel at the risk of them overboring it and having custom barrels made.
3. Cut the restrictor ring off myself and just use semi auto barrels cut down to fit.
4. Cut the new bolt to fit the restrictor ring.
Has anyone ever cut an uzi bolt before? What specs would be ideal here?

Checked out Vector, they seem to have a new site. Presently it lists no Uzi parts. Perhaps the site is not completed yet?

Vector just remodeled their website over the weekend. I think it just isn't completed yet.

I chose to send mine to Vector, partly to have the rest of the conversion done, which needed doing, but more for the ability to use the .22 FA kit they were selling at the time. The .22 kit with Dynapoints is so much fun and cheap.
