After how many rounds do you folks recommend letting the barrel cool when shooting an Uzi on full auto? How long do you let it cool for?

Maybe I'm not shooting enough rounds fast enough but I don't ever find myself waiting for one of my 9mm SMG's to cool down. Not like shooting a FA .223 or .308.

Don't worry about it. If you have a belt-fed MG you may have to worry.

Just be careful not to touch it when it gets hot. It is an easy lesson to learn!!

Thanks guys! I was hoping you'd say something like that. Seriously though, would it be ok to, say, run 1000 rds through it as fast as I can load mags and shoot it?? I can't imagine I'll be running more than 1000 rds through it at a time.

The first time I took an Uzi to the range was after work with 1k rounds of Wolf. I put the whole case through it that night in about two hours time. Didnt hurt a thing. Now my full auto G1 FAL is another ballgame. You need gloves after 40 rounds. Even if you shoot an Uzi barrel smooth, they are so cheap it wouldnt matter. Buy up a couple for spares!

I find that my .223 heats up even faster than my .308. Dump one 25 round mag through the .223 and that baby is hot!

Have you ever thought of putting a muffler repair kit on the inside of your handguards? I used it on my G1 and it works great, got the kit at AutoZone.

No I havent but I might just try that. Something has to be used or you will leave the whole palm of your hand stuck to the metal handguard!

You fit the cloth(which is wet) inside the handguards and let it dry, if you put it in the sun it drys real quick, then you can trim it after it hardens and then put the silver tape on it then trim that. After you are done, you can't even see it with the guards on the rifle and it helps a great deal. I think it's only 6 bucks at the auto parts store, I have it on all 3 of my Fals. :)

Thats what I can do with my old beat up set of handguards. I never realized how fast it would heat up until I shot it. Much faster than my AC556.

not be able to hold the gun because of the heat, way before you ruin the barrel of an Uzi. An open bolt gun cools rapidly if the bolt is drawn back and the chamber is checked,,,as it should be when you finish a mag.

The small amount of time between mags is enough to keep the barrel cool enough to prevent damage. I have dumped twenty 25rd mags as fast as I could stuff them into the mag well and no damage, but the gun was a tad warm.

Shoot away! Even if you could burn up a barrel...they are relatively cheap and you should keep at least one spare.
