I just joined the UZI owner's ranks by purchasing a NIB Vector open bolt MINI UZI from a local dealer. Corporate transfer, so hopefully it will be my xmas present. I looked at it, handled it, opened it, played with it... and decided I could not live without it! The rest is history. It is the first UZI I've ever owned, I am extremely stoked.
:D
Of course the next logical step was to join the ranks of "Uzi Talk", benefit from all the good information, and enjoy the good chat.
Good to be here, I'll be asking lots of questions!
Take care all,
Mike

:welcome MADM16A1!
You'll enjoy it over here. There's plenty to learn so sit back, get comfy, and enjoy yourself. You got any accessories for your mini yet, and do any come with it? Any plans for accessorizing before your transfer comes through? You'll need to start buying bulk ammo for your new hose, it's got one mean appetite! Congrats!

Thanks Gun Shot,
Its a plain Jane mini and I have no accessories (yet). I do plan to shoot the heck out of it and enjoy it as much as possible before the stories I've heard about the Vector Mini conversion might come true and the ATF comes knocking at my door to take my gun away (hopefully never!). I was warned by amphibian, but I purchased in hopes it remains a gray area forever (or at least a long time).
Glad to be here!

MADM16A1, welcome to UZI Talk. I've also got a Vector Mini UZI and love it. You're going to really enjoy yours. I love the size of the gun and the high ROF is a fun change from some of the other stuff I shoot.
Ask all your questions. There are a lot of knowledgeable people around here.

Thank you RoverDave,
I am extremely happy about the purchase, the feelings of guilt about dropping 5k on a gun were hard to fight, but now that the deal is sealed, I'm just a happy man and all the guilt is gone.
The high rof and compact size are the main reasons I purchased this gun (and awesome looks, of course), as well as its smoothness, especially compared with stuff like the m16 9mm smg "vibrator".
I'm looking forward to tap the knowledge of the people who've been around UZIs for a long time.

a favor and get a Vector or C&S MetalWerkes drum for that new toy....it will add extreme fun factor to an already great gun.

I don't think I have anything new to offer, as what I know about this issue I have learned mainly through posts in this and other forums.
The issue seems to revolve around the fact that since the full size Vector receivers were cut and rewelded to create the mini frames there is concern about the action of cutting the receiver resembling a "dewat", which has lead into inquiries to Vector about the legality. So far, to the best of my knowledge, these concerns have remained unanswered.
Personally, I don't think there is an issue in making a modification of this kind to an UZI registered receiver. I base this in that if for example, my m16 registered receiver blows up in half, it would be legal for me to reweld it and repair it (if the serial# is not destroyed), even if it is in several pieces. Of course, in pieces the receiver would not be functional until repaired, but once repaired, it would be a perfectly legal item (again, this is to the best of my knowledge.)
Technically, this kind of repair is no different from the full size UZI being "repaired" into a smaller receiver. In both instances the receivers are separated into pieces and put back together. No different than if I created a shorter upper receiver for my m16, which required the lower receiver to be cut in two pieces, shortened 1/16", and rewelded.
You could also argue that since the lower can attach to the receiver while it is cut, and it could be theoretically rigged to function, it was never really a non functional receiver.
However, this is nothing but personal reasoning and is nothing else but speculation. So I know I'm taking a risk... But I think is very small.
