Are all the 45acp Uzis from Vector/Atlantic grease gun conversions? Vectors web site says that they use unmodified grease gun mags. Atlantic's site says it uses modified grease gun mags.
Can anybody enlighten me?
Thanks, Tony

I purchased a Vector .45 carbine recently and it has the grease gun lower. I got this one because it allows you 30 rounds instead of 10 or 16 with factory mags. The mags do have to be modified a little to fit due to the receiver opening being just shorter than the magwell opening in the lower. U T member "ogree" milled his out just a little to make it work without modifying the magazines. Someone may find and post the link for you here. I think I will have this done also and it still allows the use of a 9mm lower with no problems. You can get Vector to build a .45 with a standard lower but you will get no mag and will spend a minimum of $100 per mag when you can find them. I have 500-600 rounds through it without one problem. Hope this helps you out, but whatever you do BUY ONE!:50_cal

I had the exact same question... I am not new to guns by any means but am new to UZI's........ I am planning on buying a Vector 45 UZI... and am confised by the Vector/Atlantic sites...
How would I modify greese gun mags to make them work? Can't you just buy some from Vector? I figure they have more since they sell the gun... (I've asked them with no reply)
Are greese gun mags difficult to modify?
Jamin
thanks

I have had two of the Vector lowers and neither required any modification to the GG mags. One fit a little loose and required a little gentle squeezing on the mag well to make the mag fit tighter.
The modification mentioned is simply taking a little metal off the back of the mag doubler where the mag locks up. This is easily done with a dremel tool or file. They send instructions how to do this and it's no big deal.

Hi gutshot and Merry Christmas,
I received one mag with my gun and it was filed down quite a bit to fit. No instructions were in the box on how to modify but it is not hard to figure out. I have purchased GG mags from various sources, some used and some new some parked and blued, but not any of them will fit without the modification. I guess it all depends on the fit of the receiver to the lower. Good shooting and happy holidays.

I modified the receiver instead of modifying every mag I had.
I have a full size semi auto that I added the Vector greasegun trigger group to it. The mag would not slide in far enough to lock up.
People mentioned the mag modification but I didn't want to modify every greasegun mag I had.
It only took slight filing on the rear mag opening of the receiver and now any unmodified greasegun mag will slide right in.
Just my .02 cents.

Appreciate your info! I can't wait to get one... That pretty much solves everything. One more question, I just found a good source on grease gun mags $20 but it says their new production? I fifgured that wouldn't matter but thought I'd run it by you guys
thanks man!
Add too my collection. I have a SVD Dragunov, H&K USP Match, a hard cromed AK-47.. and soon to be .45 cal Uzi.

At Vector, about three months ago, in consideration of the Uzitalk chat(see, we do listen....sometimes), we re-visited our GG lower design because up until that point, the GG mag would have to be modified pretty much all the time to fit in an Uzi.
We found that we could move the magwell forward just a little and that made the GG mags work in some guns. In this study, we found that the magwell openings in the Group Ind. receivers vary a little so that is the reason some work and some don't.
We did not inform Atlantic of this change. Their statement is from the old design. In making a new official statement from Vector, I would say:
With your new .45 gun with GG conversion lower, you may or may not have to modify the GG mags to fit.
For you Uzi purists out there (I say this with respect; I understand your love) we had only two original IMIs to check but both of them were ok with this new positioning of the magwell. Of course you purist might not dishonor your IMI by putting a GG lower on your gun!
If you purchase a GG conversion lower from us or get a GG converted gun from us, there should be instructions with it on how to modify the mags if needed. All GG mags we ship out should already be modified, just in case.
