Ok, you send in your 200 dollar check for transfer. It takes 5-6 weeks to even go pending. That means there's no record till pending right.

So, I sold a Krink to a dealer, it went pending and 2 days later it was approved. I have an M16 out of state coming in for transfer to my dealer. Pending the 18th of Dec. So why can't i send in the next transfer to me given how it takes at least 4-6 weeks just go go pending? I figure the person to dealer transfer will be approved like next week? I could buy a few weeks other wise

Bad idea?

ATF..... "We will sell no wine before it's time.........", I am in the same boat first form 4 out of state owner to my FFL/SOT, cashed the check on 12/17.....
and the wait begins......

I know it sucks...... but sometimes these things do get screwed up...... I guess we just have to be patient........ I HATE PATIENT!!!

I read somewhere it was prohibited for a person or dealer to file transfer paperwork to transfer an NFA firearm that was not theirs yet (ie - the approval hadn't been finalized)

I can't find it now - and I don't even know where I read that .... but it is out there somewhere.

Transfer is not complete untill the new person has taken physical possesion, filing new transfer papers before the new transferee has the item is a bad decision.

Yea we all have thought of that before... But it is not worth the hassle... If the paperwork gets delayed you will have a mess... A refused form because the owner does not own it... Try to get a refund... Been there, have the scars... (from just a refund) You can get your paperwork ready ahead of time... But sometimes that is a hassle unless you have a copy of the transfer in progress... If the model is wrote slightly different etc...

Just like usual... Try to think of something else...
