If so, how long does the paperwork take to come back? Friend of mine wants to see mine.

I got one earlier this year for BeachinBeemer's shoot in Carolina (which unfortunately I did not make), faxed it in, back within one week. ScooterTrash. :biker

Depends on what state you plan to go to, and if they is friendly to the type of firearm you wish to transport.
I am currently papered for IN, KY, WV, MI, and VA for the 2008 yr (did mine in November 2007,, took about 2 1/2 weeks)... if I decide to go somewhere on a momonts notice ---> toss applicable hardeware in the car and go.

I just sent in the paperwork on my first NFA gun, and if you could tell me a little more about how to apply to go out of state, and how transporting out of state works I would greatly appreciate it.

Out of State form is ATF 5320.20, I think available thru the link on this site. I will leave further details to guy's on this forum with a lot more expertise than I, but I know for sure that is the form.

You are correct... Been a while since I did one... Took a few weeks... Send in early... You can put down the travel date as the year of 2008 instead of a specific day... Also make sure what you take is legal in the state you are going to... You can fax them in but I prefer the mail... I have heard stories of the fax machine being right by the shredder.... You can find the forms here, click on top bar 'ATF Forms'. (http://www.titleii.com/)

Pretty much follow the link/info above... Transportation is pretty much like any firearm... Lock up and take... Just don't loiter in unfriendly states... And of course make sure it is legal in the state/area you are taking into... The forms should not get approved if it is not legal... yea right...

Last time I snail mailed my 5320.20s they were back within 2 weeks. Wish F4s went as fast.

I did this the first time last spring to take my Uzi from Ohio to Indiana for a match. I had some questions and talked to my examiner on the phone before faxing in the paperwork. I faxed my paperwork in late in the afternoon and had the faxed approval early the next morning! The mailed copies arrived a couple of days later. I don't know whether talking to the examiner expedited things but I was very pleased with the prompt service.
All of my personal experiences with ATFE have been very positive and hassle free.

It always seems to take a couple / few weeks, whether faxed or mailed. So I just mail them. Faxing doesn't seem to get them back to me any faster and my mailed copies don't come back looking like a low-quality fax.
I just sent in some a week or so ago. But then, I was sending in 12 sets, so it might take them a little longer. :evilgrin

I called the BATFE (West Virginia)and was assigned an officer by my last name(alphabetical order). Filled in the form(5320.20). Faxed it in, and in about 25 minutes I obtained it. The officer also mailed the form to the location I was going to keep the Uzi.
Go to SUBGUNS web site,-Danbrew's ATF Forms, fill it out, print it out. Faxed it in it worked for me. But I called BATFE first, found out who my officer was and asked(VERY HUMBLE) if it was possible to do this. Given fax number-faxed it in. 25 minutes-GOOD TO GO!!!!!!!!!!:uzi
