I'm new at this..Maybe someone can guide me through this maze of purchasing a registered Full auto. Lets say, I saw one for sale out of state on one of the many internet sites and I thought it was a fair price, so now what?? Do I send the money to that person and he holds it until I get the proper papers filled out or does he send it to a class 3 dealer in my state and that dealer guides me through the proper procedure?? Thanks for any info you can provide.... P.S. What is your opinion on a dealers IMI sample?

If you find one out of state that a dealer or and individual owns it must be transfered to a dealer in your state. You must send the money to who ever has the gun. If an individual has the gun:$200 tax will be paid to transfer to the dealer in your state. Then you must pay $200 tax to transfer from your dealer to you. If an out of state dealer has the gun he can transfer it to your dealer tax free. Then you would pay $200 tax to transfer it to you. When I say "you" have to pay the tax stamp, I mean somebody has to. Normally the buyer does but not all of the time. The IMI dealer sample you refer to is a non-transfereable gun. It can only be owned by dealers and law enforcement. This is why they cost less money.

reloader, in addition to the info timspawn gave you, you might want to check out the UZI Talk library here. (http://files.uzitalk.com/reference/pages/legal.htm) It contains an overview of the process of buying an NFA weapon.

Thanks much for that information.

Oh yeah, one important step missing. You need to come here and blab about your purchase throughout the entire process. Very important step.

One thing to check before starting the process is to see whether the Sheriff in your county is NFA friendly, I believe you are in good shape for Orlando but check to be sure.

C-3 friendly. Sherrif Beary is great, I worked with him several years ago.

Well, I guess before I start any paper work I'll have to locate a dealer / person who has an UZI carbine ( preferably in mutable calibers ) any Ideas????????

Watch the NFA sale board here and
Subguns (http://www.subguns.com)
Sturmgewehr (http://www.sturmgewehr.com/webBBS/nfa4sale.cgi?#30977)
Be sure you know what you want and don't want, study up here on the board. For example, if you want a New Vector as opposed to a registered bolt gun.
When buying NFA, it works like this, market price will pretty much be the same across the board, avg for an NIB UZI is about $4500 right now. I have seen them for $3800. Have your money ready. If you see what you are looking for, email the seller with "I'll take it" or phone them. NFA stuff moves quick & there isn't much room for chit chat and negotiations especially on the 'net.
Now if you are at a MG shooting event or at a dealer with inventory, you might have some wiggle time & room.
Most sellers want cash up front, some will want half. Do what's neccessary to protect yourself, send payment registered mail return receipt unless dealing with someone or a dealer who is well known. You will have to have your NFA dealer lined up ahead of time because he will have to send a copy of his FFL & SOT to the sellers NFA dealer unless it's an in-state sale. Which in that case you might be able to meet the seller at the dealer and do the transaction & paperwork right there & then.
I'd suggest that you ask for a test firing at a range and bring along someone who is familiar with the weapon to inspect it for you if it is used. This isn't always possible obviously if it's out of state.
When dealing with an out of state sale, try to find a weapon that is on Form 3, it will save you $200.
If you recall when dealing with an out of state seller, the seller has to transfer to his NFA dealer & pay the $200 tax. This dealer does a tax free transfer to your FL dealer, who then does a $200 tax paid transfer to you so that's $400 in taxes.
Remember that it is a time consuming process, don't get in a hurry because it may be 6-8 months minimum before all the paper goes thru. You could ask for confirmation copies that the paperwork was sent to BATF other than that, forget about it until you get "The Call"

You added an unnecessary step. An out of state seller can transfer directly to your in state dealer. Saves one transfer. The amount of tax is the same. You can have the out of state seller transfer to an out of state dealer, but it would only take more time and that dealer may want some money for his troubles too. Other than that you hit all the points well and did it rather eloquently too.

AS thought ...I'd probably be better off dealing within my state of Florida and avoid the paper chase ect. Good advise:)
