For those of you who have applied for a suppressor, I'm curious to know, what would be the acceptable reason when asked on the ATF-4 application for wanting one.

all lawful purposes

Collecting

Just don't write: "so I can shoot people in public places and get away with it"

Interesting.... Think I'll go with Collecting and investment. The other is not that appealing... Thanks for the INFO

I also include the phrase "to protect my hearing" as part of the reason for needing a suppressor. Protecting our hearing and those around us when shooting seems like a good reason to me.:angel3

Of course not, silly. It's "To make it harder for the game warden to catch me poaching." :D

Really though any reason, as long as it's legal, should suffice. How about "Because chicks dig 'em." or "To satisfy the cravings of my inner child."

I've always put "collection and investment" on all my form 4s.

"Homeland Security and Sporting Purposes" was proposed on the Subguns NFA board the other day.

"Because the voices in my head told me to get a suppressor!" :D :D :D

Seriously, every Form 4 I have has the following statement:

"For collecting, investment and other lawful purposes."

I'm on my third sheriff now in the last year and I view this statement as more important for the CLEO who signs directly below it. I really doubt that the ATF cares much what is put there.
