View Full Version : SW5 questions?

Any thoughts on this other than the normal "stay away from Special Weapons" stuff?
I have a SW5, with what I think is a very early serial number, A000XX. It has a metal semi only lower. No paddle mag release. 16" barrel.
Got it dirt cheap a couple years ago, I don't shoot it much, but so far (300rds or so in the past 2 years) it's been perfect. No FTF, FTExtract, FTEject, nothing. And I have shot whatever ammo is cheap, mostly WWB.
Anyhow, my questions are: Anyone know what the US parts are in this thing? I don't want to replace something I should not. The long barrel looks wrong to me, who has the best slip over fake silencer for it? Any idea how old this thing is? And last but not least, if it really is a Piece of Crap, what specifically is wrong with it?
Thanks

RM308,
I just bought a SW5 a couple of weeks ago as well. Mine needed a new extractor and spring, and my gunsmith adjusted the ejector....but it runs like a top! Mine is an older one, with a metal lower and no paddle mag release.
Todd from SW actually sent me the extractor and spring free of charge. He also offered to repair it under warranty if this didn't solve FTE problems.
They are not pieces of crap, but I think anyone who has followed the process of SW and their progress will realize that they have worked out bugs over the years. Evidently, mine had some POF parts.....which are POS. That POF extractor caused a LOT of people a LOT of headaches.
As far as which parts are US.....not really sure.
Here is a great link for a cheap $29 slip over shroud/fake can:

I ordered one of E&L fake suppressors for my USC/UMP conversion, looks and fits great. Great service and the price is great too, and don't forget about the unlimited lifetime guarantee

Thanks for the input, I think I'll get one of the shrouds, they look pretty good (especially for the price).
Anybody know if my gun is "early"? I thought it might be with the A000XX serial number. When were the SW5's produced?
Thanks

Hey, thanks for the link. But my serial number does not match the format the link specifies.
The example sited is 5-07-02-0014, mine is A000xx.
The example is supposed to be read as 5 (for SW5 model) 07 (the month) 02 (the year) and 0014 (for the production number that month).
So I still can't figure mine out. I welcome more advice.
Thanks
