Hello,
Couple of questions about the ceiner kit .22 conversion. I have a AC556 with the standard factory 18" barrel.
Which brand of .22 ammo seems to work best in the rifle.
Any other issues I should be aware of with the installation and/or functioning of the kit.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
Cr.

22 MINI MAGS do the trick!
DO NOT send JAC (off) any money for a kit, if you don't have one yet. You'll get NO goods. Purchase from Brownells', when avail.

My kits always have liked CCI Mini Mags. Had good luck with Remmington high velocity Golden Bullet loads too. Stay away from the cheap bulk packs.
Ciener kits run flawlessly with good magazines and good ammo. The magazine is the weak link here. DO NOT load 30 rounds in the mag, as it will cause the feed lips to spread and affect function. I always load mine with no more than 25 rounds. Also, magazine springs seem to wear out over time on these mags and cause sporadic feeding when weak. You will have to get new magazines if this occurs, as I am not aware of any place to buy replacement mag springs.
Installation is very straight forward, as long as you know how to field strip your weapon. If you need instructions let me know and I will walk you through it.
I will second the notion to stay away from buying directly from JAC. Post a WTB add on several of the boards (Arfcom, Perfect Union, Sterm, etc.) or get one from Brownels.
Hope this helps.

ateamrob,
I checked his website and it looks like he swamped with business orders going to dealers first, single mail in customer orders are last to get attention.
individual customer service is last priority. here is a link to his website explaining the delays in shipping an order.

I checked on the brownells site and they have two listings for the ciener kit
mini-14A kit and mini-14B kit. looks like they do not sell the A kit anymore for the AC556. my question is will the B kit work with my AC556 rifle its prefix # is 191
quote from brownells
"SPECS: Steel, black, parkerized, matte finish. Includes bolt, chamber adapter, operating rod, recoil spring, gas piston adapter, one 10-round magazine. Mini-14A fits Series 181 to 187 and all AC 556’s. Mini-14B fits Series 188 and up. Extra magazines fit all models."
is there a link explaining the differences in the rifle series numbers?
thanks again for any advice.

The JAC(off) explanation of delay has been there for the better part of a year. I have met (through various forums) no less than a hundred people who didn't have a good word to say about him. I am going on a year, $340 spent, NO PRODUCT! He DOES NOT return ANY requests for status, PERIOD.

Mine runs with most any ammo since I replaced the mag springs, even Bulk pack Remington, and Federal from Wally World. I must have gotten lucky when I ordered them from Ciener, and received them a week later. The only differance between the A, and B kits, is that the operating rods are slightly different. I will try to post pics tonite.
www.policeguns.com list the Ac-556 in stock for $199 with 1, 30rd mag. Hopefully BDM will start selling thier mags soon.

There never was an AC556 specific kit. The kit for Series numbers 181-187 is the correct kit for the AC556. The "B" kit is made for the later series Ranch rifles.
The AC556 had their own serial number prefix that does not correlate to the Mini 14 series. Well, in a way it does. The first Mini 14 had a serial number prefix 0f 180--the first AC556 had a 190 prefix. The next series Mini were the 181-187 (mechanically identical throughout the series range)--the next AC556 had the prefix of 191-192. All parts from the Mini 14 series 181-187 minus the receiver and the fire controls are interchangeable with the 191-192 series AC556.
I hope this answers your question.

Before I left for Iraq I drove over to Brownell's and bought a couple of the Mini/AC .22lr conversion kits along with 10 extra mags but I never had a chance to try them out before I came over here. When I get home I need to get a 3rd kit for the stainless Ruger Mini-14 factory folder I picked up.

please correct me if i am wrong, my understanding is that the B kit that Brownells offers will not work in my AC556. I was wanting to order one from Brownells as i have an FFL and i am able to get a discount.
Thanks,

That is correct. The "B" kit is ONLY for the Ranch rifles. It will not function correctly in the AC556.
I just checked the Brownells web site......looks like the good old customer service of JAC strikes again! Brownells no longer carries the "A" kits!!!!
I will keep an eye out for you. Maybe I can score you one from another board.

Guys..my class 3 dealer has a kit he wants to sell..ac556, I think 4 high cap mags...his name is Jim Greene, Class Two Enterprises, Inc. email is subgun@tntie.com, his mobile #is 704-995-3287..he also works for glock during the day and is on the road mon/thurs. Call his cell in early evening and leave him a msg, etc-he had the kit 3 weeks ago and asked me if I knew anyone who wanted it..I'm assuming it is like new.-Beemer:biker
Mine only works with Federal Game Shok
