I am buying an AC556 parts kit from a good friend of mine for my AC556K (shorty factory folder). For those of you that know the AC parts kits, you will also know that they are a very rare find these days and a good idea to have for AC owners.

Either way the kit I am getting comes with an 18inch AC556 and has the bayonet lug, gas block and original ruger flash suppressor on it. Of course its also brand new and never been mounted. I am wondering if anyone else that may happen to be in the same situation as me (switched of course) that has a full size AC556 and has a parts kit that came with a shorty 13inch barrel may want to switch and we would both be happy and have the barrels for our kits that are the right size for our guns.

If anyone has a 13inch AC barrel with suppressor (new preferred) and would like to switch for an 18inch brand new barrel please drop me a line.

thanks guys,
Rob

I don't know of anyone with the barrel you want, but I'd be interested in buying your 18' barrel if you decide to sell it. You might contact Ruger and see if they will sell you the 13" barrel.

I don't believe the hard part is the barrel as you can always cut down an 18" barrel, the hard part is the front sight block as they're like hens teeth. I have a Ruger factory folder Mini-14 that has Danish proof marks (so I'm told) a couple places on the receiver, 18" barrel with a notch cut into it at the 13" point of the barrel and the front sight gas block. I bought it at a gunshow in SLC 10 years ago and the dealer told me that he acquired it from the Carson City, NV Indian Reservation Police Department with a PD # signifier (he told me) etched into the side of the receiver. It's an interesting Mini that I wish I knew more of the history behind it.

yeah I can always send the barrel to a place like accuracy systems and have them turn it into a 13inch so thats really no big deal.

I guess I was just seeing if someone wanted to do an easy swap. No big deal at all.

Ruger will not just send a 13 inch barrel though. Its a factory fit item just like the gas blocks and they wont send factory fit items out.

I recently sent my Ruger KAC to the factory and requested that it be rebarreled with the 13 inch barrel. Their response was that they no longer stock that barrel. Were they telling me a story?

You are not the only one that has reported that.

If true, its stupid. All a 13" barrel is is a 18" barrel chopped and the gas port enlarged.

These are the ons Ruger annoys me no end, and I don't / wont own any of their current production guns.

well I can tell you that when I spoke to the lady at Ruger a month ago she told me that they would in fact replace the barrel with a 13 inch and she then went on to explain that EVERY weapon that comes up to the Ruger plant returns to the owner EXACTLY how it was from day 1 and this includes barrel size.

again, maybe the Ruger people are not all on the same page with each other.

But that is what Ruger told me a month ago.
