I just bought a mod B UZI and happened upon this site. Its great to see there's a following.
I am already thinking of legally converting it to FA. I understand all the legal aspects. What is needed as far as parts, and what is the cost to legally convert my gun?

First, the only legal way to do it of course would be to buy a registered bolt. Last reg'd. bolt in 9mm that I saw was around $1,500.00, but that's been a while now. The rest of the parts can be had by buying a kit from a FA gun. That will cost just under $200.00 from several different sources. See the thread here. http://www.uzitalk.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=455
It will give you a bunch of online sources for parts. Also check other threads in the for sale area. So, with all parts and tax you are looking at around $2,000.00.
As for what parts you will need. If you get the parts kit, you'll have them all as a rule. If you purchase them seperately, it will cost a bit more. The parts that come to mind are;
Top cover with ratchet mechanism.
Bolt safety (optional and rarely used).
Trigger housing (best to buy it complete).
Sear (trigger housing part).
Recoil spring assembly.
Barrel (unless you like that 16" POS).
Selector switch (trigger housing part).
If you buy the trigger group complete, you wont have to buy a bunch of small parts seperately. You will however have to make one small modification. The hole for the pivot pin is 8mm and will need to be 9mm (IIRC). This is real easy to rectify with a 9mm drill bit (trivia mode - 9mm was used so a bulllet could be used to remove the lower - trivia mode off now). If you use a semi lower you will need to remove the block that is welded in and then you can't have that lower in the gun without the bolt. That means you couldn't shoot it in a closed bolt semi auto only configuration until you got another lower. Also, you will need to make a mod. to get a 10" barrel into the gun. The rear of the semi (16" ) barrel has a smaller diameter than the 10" SMG barrel. You can either turn down the barrel on a lathe or you can open up the rear barrel lug. BATF allows you to do either since opening up the lug doesn't affect FA fire. I recommend opening up the lug and using the thicker barrel. Why you ask? Having the thicker barrel/chamber area will allow for higher pressure ammo usage. I have never heard of an UZI having a split/ruptured chamber area, but safety always comes first in my book. If you shoot IMI +P+ ammo, you'll appreciate the extra thickness. I had a squib load while shooting FA once. The next round cleared the obstruction. :o :o :o :o :o :o
That left a .025" bulge in the barrel, a bent top cover, and a badly shaken ME. That extra thick barrel and heavy bolt surrounding the barrel may have saved my life. ;) ;) ;) Karl. :uzi:

You're welcome, now it's time to start saving those pennies. Then once you have your FA UZI, you can start saving for the progressive reloader that you'll need to keep it properly fed. Then you'll need to save up for components. :rolleyes: Boy, this is an expensive hobby. I need to win the lottery. :( Karl. :uzi:

Congrats on a great acquisition. That's exactly how I started out. You're gonna love the Uzi and will want more. I had to wait 7 years to get a FA, as the state I was in at the time did not allow them. Enjoy!!
