Tapco AK furniture? [Archive]

I am sitting around the house, cabin fever setting in, wishing I had the $$$ for a Galil...

I saw that tapco has a parts kit that makes a AK look kinda sorta like a GAlil.

Any body have first hand experience with their AK furniture kits?

I know that their SKS 20 rounders are good but...?

U mean crapco ? ... It's POS all the way ... sorry if that's not what u want to hear ... it's all cheap made and it's weak ... the folders are sloppy and weak ...
a butthole stock on a MAK is better !! ...

I put a Galil handguard on my Norinco. I really like it. Before I could put it on, I had to "fit it" with my Dremel tool. It fits very tight. After removing all the wood and going with the plastic, I noticed I took off about a 1 1/2lb worth of weight.

Now here's a guy that's going to the AK hall of shame ... a AR15 stock with a saw grip off God knows what and a Galil handguard made out of a recycled coke bottle ... poor old MAK ... Chairman Mao is rolling in his grave let alone the great one ... GOOD GRIEF !! ... RELOAD !! ... :nutkick

Hey Glockdude1....it's your rifle so do whatever you want if it makes you happy.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the AR style stocks on AK's or SKS's but kinda like the Galil look on an AK.

I have one some where in a box or draw somwhere.
I had it on my Romy WASR for aboutr a year and then it got old.

Knothing wrong w/ making your rifle look or feel like you want it too.

I've changed to a purist, more original approach to my machine guns so i don't purchase aftermarket parts anymore.

If you want the front handguard I'm sure I can round one up and let it go for what ever I paid for it. (shipping included)

I think I have the folding f stock part as well.

I have the Tapco furniture on a FA Polytech AK47 and it works out fine. I did have to replace the folding stock after banging it on something (It seems a bit delicate), but all-in-all, I'm quite pleased.

I have a Tapco collapsable stock on my Saiga 12. As far as plastic stocks go its no Magpul but it works fine for the intended purpose. Not bad at all.

At the time I changed the stock, I was going to go with a Russian left side folder. I wanted to have the receiver modified. (no tang). The only problem was, every smith I talked to wanted to charge me big bucks to do it.

I went with the Tapco/Galil/SAW combo instead. I really like it. And so do A-holes that make fun of it, THEN shoot it!! I have fired several thousand rd's thru that rifle. Love it. I changed out the stock on my Milled MAK-90 as well. It had a thumbhole stock as well.

What do you think of this one?

I kinda like that one ... :thumbs_up ... the MAK's really are fine rifles !! ... the milled versions such as yours are sweet shooters !! ...

and I must admit ... (I hate to tho) ... in reference to the Tapco stuff ... the old saw grips feel much better than the traditional AK grip ... don't tell anyone I said so ...

But that Glock thing ??? ... :smash

Nice rifle !! ... I'm not really familiar with the Yugo's but I have a MAK90 underfolder that made it into the Country with the factory holes and dimples for the underfolder to attach ... I'm guessing they were hidden by the butthole stock ...

The underfolders are not kind to the cheek when shooting but they sure are handy ... more so than a sidefolder IMHO ... a lot of bang in a very compact package ...

I've handled a couple of the Yugo underfolders but not fired one ... they seem very well made ... Heavy metal ... high quality ...

does yours have a US made barrel ? ... if so, how's the accuracy ?

There's nothing wrong with Tapco hardware.I have some of it and it functions just fine.
Just a matter of opinions.If we all liked the exact same crap,it would be pretty boring!!!

all jokes aside it's ok ... some and I said some, of the folders are kinda weak and springy ... I have some of their trigger groups in AK's and gas pistons and some FAL stuff ... Hell, you have to have some of it for 922r ... some of their stuff is just not quite there IMO ...

If you're happy with it then I'm happy for you ... I've been striving to get my rifles as close to Original military configuration as I can afford ... that's just my stupid thing ...

My Yugo has a U.S. made barrel. So far it has been 100% reliable with all my magazines/drums and ammo. The accuracy is "AK good". You won't win any matches at Camp Perry with it, but it will hold 4" groups at 100yds with 122grn Wolf.

Jugrunner (and others):

I long resisted the temptation to alter my lowly Romanian AK, but I got so damned sick of the short stock, especially using my little 3-9x42 mm scope. But after having my eyebrow dented and my eyeglasses damaged, I bought a Tapco stock that looks just like the ones pictured.

I enjoy the increased length-of-pull, and I really like the recoil pad, even though I don't consider the 7.62 to be that bad a kicker.

Why the hell are some of you guys breaking balls because somebody puts on a AR-style butt stock? If it makes the weapon more shootable, why would you care? IT'S STILL AN AK-47!!!

If anything pisses me off, it's all the goddamn picatinny rails that after-market producers are putting all over the place. Anyone stupid enough to put a frigging flashlight on a weapon (handgun OR rifle) deserves to get shot. And how many scopes can you put on an AK? As far as lasers are concerned, I think they're as useful as tits on a boar hog, nuts on a priest or tits on a nun.

I LIKE my collapsible stock. It's more comfortable and I can shoot it more accurately, which matters more than if it looks like what a communist would carry.

This is America. We're supposed to be free to choose what we want. The citizens, er, I mean comrades in communist countries took what they were given. Cheap, poorly-fitted wood, for example. My Tapco stocks fits my AKs like a glove. They reduce weight and fit my physique so I can shoot more accurately, especially at long range.

The wood on 95% of every imported AK looks like dung and are very poorly fitted, matched and mated. It's soft, poorly grained and uniformly has a protective finish that looks like some drunk teenager slapped on shellac with a dried paint brush.

My only regret in putting Tapco furniture on is that I didn't buy the Galil-type forearm for one of my AKs. I didn't realize it also included a gas tube enclosure.

Lighten up on the Tapco products. I'm no fan of the AR-15 at all. I don't care for .22s for self-defense or combat. Then again, there are a hell of a lot better cartridges for combat than the 7.62x39. It just happens to be the best for the price and allows for a lot of practice.

I'm also a purist, so I keep one AK of mine in original condition. While it's as reliable as my others, it's not nearly as accurate.

Bit I believe in enhancement.

That's why my 1911 .45 ACPs are tricked out. Same with my Hi-Power.

I find it disturbing when members of my gun brethren tell me what is proper or acceptable as to what I do to my guns.
