What is a fair price for a Hungarian SA85M underfolder? I am the original owner and will be selling it to finance a new safe, if I can make up my mind to do so. The gun has somewhere between 300 and a 1000 rounds through it. (Much closer to 300 than a 1000)The gun is in good condition and has all original equipment except box and possibly owners manual.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

It is a Kassnar. I have checked GunsAmerica, Gunbroker... Prices seemed a little high. I was trying to figure out if those sales were aborations or the norm. I don't want to take advantage of anyone, nor do I want to take advantage of anyone.

kassnars were going for between 1000 to 1300 last fall. depending on condition. if i were you i'll hold out since safe prices are pretty stable. you might end up kicking yourself later but that's me. so goodluck on deciding. btw this is what you have, right?

That is it and thanks. I agree with waiting but in the interim I have numerous guns in search of a home/safe. I have not shot that AK in over a decade.

Again, thanks

In that condition and in these times, I'd ask $1,395.00 and be able to negotiate if the other party desires.

these rifles are of a rare breed one of the more expensive types. i bet you you have something less collectible but in equal in value that you can get rid off. just a heads up there's one that was sold in a few hours for 1400 in one of the ak boards. goodluck.

I do have other things I could sell but I use them. An AK that I haven't shot in 10+ years is expendable to me, since I am not an AK collector. I never really liked the under folding stock. I have a fixed stock Romanian. I am aware that fit and finish between the two are as different as night and day, but the Romanian is still an AK, so it is like the Energizer Bunny... I use to keep the Romanian in the lock box in the back of my jeep, before a friend totaled my it.

Christmas was good to me this year and I know have six guns that need a safe and I can relieve some of the over crowding in my other safe. While I am waiting for the value of the AK to climb I could lose thousands in guns that are not in a safe if my house were broken into. Either way it is a gamble. I have never been broken into but...

Thanks for all the help.

Doug

P.S. If there are any gun grabbing Obama supporters reading this I lied. I do not own any guns. They're evil. I would never touch one, let alone own one.:laugh

The compensator is something someone talked me into years ago. I am not certain if I can find the original slant brake. Also I am not certain if I can find the original plastic oil and solvent bottles that came with it. They are around somewhere, but it may take me a while to find them.

You may want to take the time to find the original slant brake for it. Hungarian slant brakes are manufactured differently and are unique in the AK world as they have a casting/mold line along the axis of the brake. Any discerning AK collector will know the differance between a replacement brake and a true Hungarian one and it may affect the value.

I know that sounds picky but for that kind of money I would expect to have all the correct parts if I was the buyer.

jp, I owe you an apology. You are right it came with a leather sling and I found it. Thanks

Again sorry, I would have sworn it came with the sling I put on it.

Thanks for pointing it out.

AZ Doug,

Did you have any luck finding the slant brake??

Nice gun! I got rid of mine for about 2700 worth of guns. Not many out there and not many around here. A gun trader had to have mine so I let him have it! The gun that is.
