Does adding a strap to a Mac make it an illegal AW?

"search" function is very helpful ;)

If you do a search for "strap" in this section, you will find a lot of discussion about it.
Most feel it is an illegal addition to a semi auto gun.

Do NOT search for "strap on" or you may find some posts and pictures about a few members here. :lol
Once seen, it cannot be unseen.

I read the old posts, and none of them is definitive. I am trying to see if anyone has a ATF ruling on this strap thing.

The sellers of the straps claim they are legal.

I'm not sure you will find a definitive ruling from the ATF, and if you did I'm not sure you could rely on it. The root of this problem is the rather antiquated legal definition of a handgun which must be "designed to be fired with one hand". If you add anything as an aftermarket accessory that can be gripped, such as a strap, barrel shroud or faux suppressor, are you changing it so that it is no longer designed to be fired with one hand ? If you were that pedantic, one could argue that a regular pistol with a serrated trigger guard is designed to be fired with two hands :roflmao .

My view is that the whole matter is moot, because the strap is a dangerous and worthless POS no matter what type of gun it is on. Save your $$$ and put it towards registering the gun as an SBR :D.

It looks like you live in California. If the California Assault weapons ban is still in effect, it looks like the M-11, with or without the strap, is illegal unless it was registered to you. You need to contact California DOJ. http://www.ag.ca.gov/firearms/forms/pdf/awguide.pdf

%100 legal.

A strap is just that, a strap. It is not a vertical grip in the eyes of the ATF.

Two items.

1. The MAC is legal in California if made by MPA because its not on the AW "list". And, the mag fits in the pistol grip so its a legal pistol to boot.

2. Inadvertently typed in "Strap on" in search and the resulting images were very distressing. I am now blind and in need of therapy...so I can't shoot or own a handgun anyway....

What about the part of a Pistol becoming an Assault Weapon By having A threaded barrel, a second Handgrip, doesn't specify rigid or strap, just a second handgrip. A barrel extension to keep the shooter from burning their hand. This info is on page 3 of this Document. http://ag.ca.gov/firearms/infobuls/9904.pdf#xml=http://search.doj.ca.gov:8004/AGSearch/isysquery/e45858bc-3a89-4ba0-8df9-d100ba072d71/9/hilite/
Not trying to argue, just trying to answer your question. The State of California has laws that other States don't. What's legal for the rest of us doesn't apply. The ATF may consider it just a Strap, but CA may consider it a Second Handgrip.

Why temp fate and the wrath of anti-gun freaks and big brother. Just be happy with what you can have or move to where you can have an FA firearm with all the bells and whistles.

Umm, that's not true.

there are many CA legal MAC type pistols. Most can be made into a legal configuration. Only ones that are illegal are the ones that are banned by name.

I'm not saying that there aren't CA legal Mac style weapons. The one in question appears to have a Fake Suppressor, and a strap. Is this gun CA legal according to the CA assault weapon ban? There is a difference between Mac's ,M-11's, and Mac style weapons. The Taurus PT 92, and PT 99, look like the Beretta 92, but would you call them a M9.
What do you have to do to make a Mac style weapon CA legal?

You can buy PM11's in the "Peoples Republic Of Kalipornia" but no threaded barrel(there's a clamp on fake suppressor available), no mag over 10 rnds with purchase(try to find a 10 rnd 9mm Mac mag anywhere) and get this; no mag drop release button or flap. You have to un-screw a bolt at the mag-well base to release the clip, unless you're a criminal of course and then you're exempt!
