I'll do my best to be there. A 300 mile drive means for sure a couple days spent there. Are any of you familiar with local hotels in that area?

I've stayed at the Comfort Inn in Weeki Wachee (SR50 & US19) a couple of times. Nothing to brag about but it's got a roof and A/C. About $60.00 a night.

I imagine you can find one cheaper if you look around.

I stay at the Best Western in Spring Hill, also at the intersection of 50 and 19. It's nine miles straight south from the range. Nice place; $68 per night.

I won't be at the shoot on the 4th :( due to family obligations -- but I never miss the fall and winter MG shoots there!

"what is it like and should I bring toys the first time?"

It is kinda chaotic.
It is very crowded. You need to get there very early if you want a decent spot on the line. They know a lot of people are coming and are stingy w/ the positions. They cram as many people as they can in there. I have been doing less shooting and more watching the last times I've been.
The range is up to 300 yards and you get to shoot at cars, tannerite and whatever else is out there.
I would say bring something that you normally don't shoot. Since you shoot SMG's alot, maybe bring something in rifle caliber.
I like to see the variety of MG's.
Last time someone had the folding radio robocop gun and also one of the ultra rare FA SW model 59 pistols w/ the shoulder stock. He let me shoot it. Lot a fun.
Another guy usually shows up w/ an APC w/ a MINIGun mounted on top.

They've had SMG matches there the last two times but it is pretty much a joke. Nothing like Malabar.

Well it looks like I won't be making this on the 4th. I think I will be fending off bottle rocket attacks aimed at my condo. I will hopefully be at the next port malabar shoot with my mini in hand.

Looks like due to family obligations, I will not make it either.
I will be at the Port Malabar SMG match though. Held July 18th due to conflict w/ the 4th of July.

I'll see you on the 18th. Have a good 4th, hot dogs and fireworks and all that.
