View Full Version : What's the scoop on registered sear FNCs?

I've seen several FNCs for sale lately being sold with a registered sear "ready to install." Can someone tell me about these generally? Specifically,

-- Does the conversion require irreversible modifications to the host rifle?

-- My understanding is the hammer or trigger must be pig-welded to engage the FA sear. How sturdy is the resulting part?

-- Do the converted guns run well, and are they reasnably reliable?

Any other info appreciated. I'm trying to decide whether it's worth the money to buy one of these.

Gunwares,
1. These sears were made by S&H and the only mod to the host rifle is a small pin hole drilled in for the new location of the sear. - These are different from factory FNC sears, they go into a different location of the original sear to avoid being classified as manufacturing a post sample.- kind of like you can't mill off the block and add a hole to an HK to install swing down lower(the transferrable ones were grandfathered in)
2. A trip for the sear needs to welded to the bolt to accept full auto hammer- no problem yet- 3000 rounds fired through it
3.Mine runs great and several others I spoke with have nothing but praise for theirs. - for spare parts try Chris@VulcanImports.

Mine was done by Curtis Higgins at S&H and his work is outstanding. The only other type of FNC conversions I seen for sale was a Fleming Registered receiver, but never seen one in person.

yep, & on 2 S&H Converted FNC's I have personally seen, the form 3/4 states "installed in FNC s/n ############. "married" to the FNC.
that said, should one wish to do so, there is nothing to prevent an owner from "divorcing" the sear from the gun, since the mod's are not what ATF defines as "making" IMHO. I don't recall seeing a post where 1st person states that "ATF denied for cause" .

don't know about the welding. If Curtis Higgings does the conversion, I have not, in watching the boards since 1998, any recollection of a post related to "my FNC broke what needs to be done to fix the broken weld". Curtis is on Bowers Board Recommended Dealers List. I have personally dealt with him several times. my disappointments were due to his turn-around time was too quick, his cost was too low, and his quality was too high.
you get my drift. Ask about him on the Bowers Board of Inquiry.

ref: above note about the boards, can't recall seeing a post about S&H Arms FNC's being un-reliable, trouble prone, or tending to break.

i picked up a sear this week. the sear is not married to any receiver! i cant find a rifle and will sit on the sear in hopes of someone coming up with a clone someday.
i could be wrong, but i believe there will be a host receiver other than current FNC semi autos. demand is great and some smart gun guy will design a means "clone" to supply the demand! and then my $2995 investment should do very well.

does any one have a pic of the firecontrol system for these FNcs?
or a diagram. i got a very junky pic of a diagram off subguns from an ad of someone selling a sear and would like to find another or a actual pic.

When Curtis does the form 3 to transfer the sear to the dealer, he puts the information on it about which FNC it is installed in, "marrying" the sear to a particular rifle. It may be that is not a "must do" step, it is the way 2 rifles at different times were converted by installing a sear. The conversions were done by Curtis Higgins.

my curtis converted fnc ,the form 4 only has sear .223 fnc listed .no # from the gun?the re marked receiver has 4 postions and internal 3rd kit is installed .if you remove the sear the kit would also have to be removed and the gun would be marked with the 4 postions.for a exploded parts view ask chris at vulcan imports for his parts list, fnfnc .com had a pdf file with parts ,I got a brand new folding stock and pistol grip from that site ,the seller is rumored to be working on belt feed uppers?.dsa has 1 piece firing pins in stock.$35.00 the guns are still around 1 member found a good deal this weekend in pa gunshow, I was dollar short and late ,sold when I got there.

Complete FNC upper receivers sold for $650 from Sarco when I bought mine. These included the bolt. Condition varied. My exterior needed to be refinished. the internals and bolt were mint.

my F&C sear is on a form 3 at present.
the sear is very tiny, so small that it does not require the maker to engrave their name, only the serial number. form 3 says it is a
auto sear machine gun
cal. NA
model FNC
S&H arms Tulsa OK.

sear is strong looking but not a finely crafted work of art.
It is my hope that with approval that this gem could be utilized in the AR-15 family. It would be very easy without modifing a semi lower and without modifing the sear, to make this sear function in a AR-15. All it would take is a little devise to hold the sear in a way as to function like a DIAS.
