View Full Version : Sterling Form 4 Question
Hey guys...
What are your C3s filling in for Barrel Length and Overall Length for your Andrewski Sterlings? Currently, mine shows "n/a" for both entries. Is that how the DLO tubes were originally registered in 1980 when they were still unassembled?

Subsequent F3s & F4s should show:
Barrel length: 7.8"
O.L.: 27.16" (open), 19" (closed)

I didn't notice Stymie's reply before I called Andrewski. I was told 7.75 and 27.0 by John. Now that my local C2 SOT has it, we're doing a letter that will accompany the Form 4. The letter states that the gun description should now incorporate the new barrel and OAL parameters. The F4 will reflect those parameters too.
I'm still waiting on my CLEO cert and then it's off to advanced patience counseling.
Kyle, you're lucky you are doing an in-state. I bet you'll have yours first.
My Form 4 mimicks the Form 3; ie no dimensions are given. The dealer felt that was the best route to go.
I'm still waiting for my CLEO signoff so I've still got a long wait.
Some good news though... my Savage '28A1 TSMG went pending June 1. Should have it in about 10 weeks or so. And the paperwork for my Bridgeport M1A1 went in last week. I'm hoping that one clears in time for Christmas.

MuzzleFlash, Any chance you can post or email me the letter that reflects the description of the completed gun you sent with your F4? Thanks!

The letter will accompany the F4 and will be issued by my SOT, not me. Obviously, you could submit this under your name after the transfer.

Is changing the model allowed? What's on the receiver/magwell?

I spoke with my dealer yesterday and my F4 will have the "new" information for the completed gun listed in box H, additional description, per his suggestion. Thanks for your post MuzzleFlash.

Got my CLEO signoffs back today. Record fast turnaround. I have another approved gun in transit to my SOT so when it gets here, we sign & date both forms 4 and then off to Chicago. I held up the Sterling F4 to put it through with this one. Wish I hadn't because it's taken the ATF almost 3 weeks after approving the other gun to get the paperwork to the seller. Sigh!
This is an old thread but I'm finally going to update the LOA and barrel length information on my gun and wanted to check something first.
My Form 4 currently shows the model to be "Sterling Mk2". I think that's how DLO originally registered the tubes. As Stymie noted, the gun is actually marked "Mk4" on the mag well. However, just like the "KRXXXXX" serial number and the L2A3 designation, they really aren't pertinent. Only the DLO serial number on the tube is what counts.
So, in my letter, should I also request the ATF to update the model to "Mk4" or just leave it as "Mk2"?
Thanks!

Maybe this was why it took over a year to have my F4 approved. There was never a Sterling MK2 made. That gun was actually a Pachett Mk2 not a Sterling.
I made the following notations in section 4,"Description of Firearm".
box d., Sterling MK4.
box e; 7.75
box f; 27"
box h; Receiver has been completed into a serviceable machine gun and the model has been upgraded to a Sterling MK4 according to NFA rules.
